The Battle of Bataan is famous in history as one of the last stands of American and Filipino soldiers before they were overwhelmed by the Japanese Forces in WW11. The Bataan Death March was named after the province where the infamous March started. Approximately 75,000 Filipino and American troops on Bataan were forced to make an arduous 65 mile march to the prison camps.Wooden plaque with metal shield attached. 20th Light Horse Regiment serving in a infantry role was posted to Merauke on the southern coast of Dutch New Guinea (now the Indoneasian province of Papua) in 1943. It was the only Australian Light Horse regiment to serve overseas in WWII. Sergeant Adrian Dunne, a native of Tocumwal NSW, was killed in action 12 November 1944. He was aged 25.Rare evidence of the service of the only Australian Light Horse regiment to serve overseas in World War II (1939-45). Timber framed display panel containing Australian Commonwealth Military Forces hat badge (Rising Sun), 'Australia' metal shoulder title, 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, 1939-45 British War Medal and 1939-45 Australian Service Medal; and Colour patch of 20th Light Horse Regiment, black over gold. Dutch migrants from the province of Limburg started a Jokers Club in Melbourne choosing a "Carnival Prins" every year. Hans 2 was chosen in 1987. The custom of partying prior to the start of Lent was very strong in the mainly Catholic Southern provinces - Limburg and Brabant. The custom has lost some of its religious significance and is mainly kept up as a fun event.Brass medal depicting a Joker on one side with names and a date on the other. The medal is suspended from a red and white twisted cord.Back of the medal reads: "Hans 2 1987 Bieëgdje". Made in Italy. -

On 26 August 1967 members of 5 Platoon, B Company, 7 RAR were lifted by United States Army Iroquois helicopters from their location beside the road leading to Dat Do, and returned to their base at Nui Dat in Phuoc Tuy Province. These soldiers had completed the cordon and search of the village of Phuoc Hai, part of Operation Ulmarra. This iconic image is etched on the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial on Anzac parade in Canberra. Medal, Khedive of Egypt's Sudan Medal 1896-1908
Khedive's Sudan Medal 1896 -1908 Instituted 12th February 1897 on the approval Abbas Hilmi Pasha, Khedive of Egypt, this medal was initially to commemorate the reconquest of the Dongola province, with the clasps Firket and Hafir included in the original army order (No. 43). Later army orders extended it to cover battles and actions up to 1908 which were commemorated with a further 13 clasps. Khedive's Sudan Medal 1896 -1908 Description: Produced in silver and bronze 39mm diameter. Obverse; the Arabic inscription "Abbas Hilmi the Second" and the year "1314" (Anno Hegirae) Reverse; A tablet inscribed in Arabic "The Reconquest of the Sudan 1314" supporting a trophy of arms. Over this is a centrally positioned oval shield decorated with stars and crescents - in the background is a display of lances and flags. Clasps; Bilingual English/Arabic, 15 issued - see table below. The first six actions commemorated with a clasp (highlighted in yellow) were also covered by the Queen's Sudan Medal. Ribbon: Yellow with a wide central blue stripe - symbolic of the desert and the Nile. Naming: Generally issued unnamed, but found named unofficially in a number of styles, although patterns of conformity emerge due to the practice of naming at the unit/regimental level.medal, khedive, sudan -
