This type of collector was to replace the trolley wheels used in Melbourne at the time. Was introduced into the Bourke St. route. Destination blind not fitted to box at time of photograph. Shows the newly formed tramway road surface, poles etc. Has "Snows" store sign on left hand side of photograph and buildings along the north side of the Sturt St. Other buildings shown are William Day & Son, Walter Connell, Anderson & Morse coach builders.
