B&W postcard of an ESCo tram at the east end of Sturt St. Ballarat, with the Grenville St. shelter in the background. Shows buildings along both sides of Sturt St. Has a few pedestrians in the photo and some horse drawn vehicles in the background. Tram in style with destination box/lights at back of drivers canopy. Has title "Sturt Street - looking West, Ballarat" in top left hand corner. On rear "H.J. Summerscales, next Post Office, Ballarat - Printed in Germany" on left hand edge vertically. Post card dated 29/12/10 (1910), from E.H. Colson? at 49 Webster St. wishing the recipient a happy new year. Recipient - Mr. A. Steer, Glen Eira Rd. Elsternwick. Shows many people, mainly women in 1920's style clothing, watching the procession or parade, standing on either side of the northern half of the street, while a horse drawn car with a person dressed in a long beard proceeds along the street. On the tram track is ESCo tram with a large destination box parked. The tram has a Bushell's Tea on the front panel. Photographically printed black and white postcard with an impressed image of an ESCo tram just past the intersection of Doveton St. and Sturt St. travelling east along the north side of Sturt. Street towing a heavily laden horse tram as a trailer. Photo appears to be taken soon after opening of the electric trams, as the tram does not have any destination box above the driver. Possibly summer 1905/1906. Numerous people in the street, some horse drawn vehicles in the photograph. Gives details of trams from the City for Rubicon St and Sebastopol for the various days and inbound trams from Rubicon, indicating that trams ex Sebastopol ran 10 minutes earlier. Shows horse-drawn vehicles and one electric tram arriving at the terminus, late in the evening. Shows the little shed at the terminus, and buildings on either side of the Sturt St. People waiting around the tram stop. The tram seems to have a "color" light indicator above the driver. Titled "Sturt Street, Ballarat" in red ink in the top left-hand corner. On the rear of the card, has the stamp "R. M. Noy, Postcard collection", cancellation stamp of Ballarat East, 23.5.07, 1d Victorian stamp. Written to Miss Victoria Kemsey? of 225 Victoria Parade, East Melbourne, wishing her many happy returns on the day. Has the logo of WTP." in the top centre of the card. Divided back type.
