Centre circular pattern (18cm diameter) of a wreath with horns, reindeer heads and rope pictures. In each corner of the centre cream section is a male seated figure dressed in Scottish kilt and cape. Textiles. Very fine linen fabric, white in colour, now a soft cream colour. A spoke-stitched hem joins a curved embroidered and lace trim decorative feature to the set. This panel forms two deep curves, where the initials CF are embroidered, and decorated with small daisy-like flowers and leaves. A 10 cm deep crochet frill is gathered and machine stitched along the curved edge. Textiles. Very large cover, with an envelope to enclose the pillow, stitched on the underside, with cotton tape ties to enclose the pillow. Beautiful fine cotton broderie fabric (possibly Swiss cotton broderie anglaise) edges the pillow. Corners of the embroidered cotton have been mitred in an unusual way, with the excess fabric still evident, in a 'kite-shaped' manner, in each corner. The embroidered cotton edging features a scalloped edge, with circular, and floral design. Textiles. Damask weave fabric, with a design of a rose, with buds, and two stems of leaves, and a lovely soft sheen. Two bands of six zig zag peaks, are made by using pulled thread embroidery, and form a border either side of a row of pulled threadwork diamond shapes, 7 cm x 7 cm. This decorative border is at each end of the runner, which also is completed with a 12 cm deep fringe. A geometric patterned weave forms the background to the pulled thread embroidery, while a single rose and bud weave is tucked into each zig zag, and a scroll design features at each fringed end.textiles, domestic, double damask table runner

The cormorant weaving was depicted through the traditional weaving method of the blanket stitch of the Yorta Yorta people. As birds are very significant and important in Aboriginal culture, the cormorant was created to represent the meaning of Wangaratta for the local people and wider community. The weaving is an extension of my series of works which represent wildlife along the waterways, particularly in the North East of Victoria and within my tribal homelands. In 2001 I was taught to weave at a weaving workshop held at Gas Works in Port Melbourne by old aunties from Victoria and South Australia which included Yvonne Koolmatrie. A body of my weaving works, which include turtles and spirits, is held at the National Gallery of Victoria. Textiles. This is a beautiful remnant of fine cream silk fabric, with a 3.5 cm deep band of cotton lace, woven with a floral design, stitched around the lower edge. A triangular shape above the lower edge, is formed by the insertion of a piece of 2 cm wide cotton lace, also with a floral design, folded and machine stitched as an insertion. The same lace is also inserted in a 9.5 cm high "frame" over an embroidered panel 7.5 cm x 6 cm wide and featuring a delicate circular embroidered and cut-work floral design. The panels from the I Am Because We Are series are woven from cut-up donated socks. They were woven on a four-shaft floor loom with a cotton warp. The names of the donors have been typed onto polyester ribbons which have been woven in with the socks. It’s possible that the typewriter ink could fade if exposed for long periods to strong light, but the sock material should be fairly stable as they were almost exclusively commercially-produced socks. The wood of the frames has been painted with an acrylic paint, and covered with MDF boards. The fabric is stretched over the frames and secured with staples.Wangaratta Art Gallery Collection.
