Book, The Greatest Raid of All Author C.E. Lucas Phillips, 1958 Companion Book Club
Historical WWII recount of the successful raid on the battleship dock at St. Nasiere. This was an action which could only be attempted precisely because it must appear to the enemy, to be absolutely impossible to undertake and for this reason alone it required courage and determination of a quite unusual order to carry out. The operation had been planned in great detail. Once the forces were committed each individual small ship and little group of soldiers had to fight it out by their own initiative in communication from the home front.A naval deployment during WWII in Normandy.Hardcover blue with red swatch, gold trim and gold writing. Bayonet, 1907
The Type 62 is a re-badged British Pattern 1907 bayonet. Siam purchased 10,000 SMLE rifles and Pattern 1907 bayonets from Britain in 1919 to equip the "Wild Tiger Corps," royal bodyguard of Vajiravudh, King Rama VI (reigned 1910–1925). The tiger figural on the ricasso is representative of the Wild Tiger Corps. Year 2462 on the Buddhist Calendar corresponds to 1919. SMLE rifles and Pattern 1907 bayonets were taken from British stocks, refurbished by Birmingham Small Arms (BSA), and remarked with Siamese markings. The bayonets were shipped with standard steel-mounted leather scabbards. Theatre Program, Cass & Clothier (Printers), Chang (film) : A Drama of the Wilderness screened at the Athenaeum Theatre in 1928, 28/01/1928
The last silent film to be shown at the Athenaeum Theatre presented by E J Carroll. The theatre was managed by Frank Talbot Pty Ltd during his long lease of the theatre following his major renovations when Henry White the architect built an intimate theatre inside the old Athenaeum Hall. In addition to musical accompaniment for the film, the orchestra, and sometimes singers entertained audiences before the films commenced and during interval. Filmed on location in the jungles of Siam (Thailand). Programs, printed for early films at the Athenaeum Theatre provided the full program for the audience in the centre pages and gave background information about the story and the actors. Chang was the last silent film to be shown at the Athenaeum Theatre before the Jazz Singer changed cinema going for ever with the introduction of both vocal and musical sound. No longer was the cinema orchestra required to provide atmosphere thus changing the cinema experience forever.Paper program of 20 pages presenting the Paramount Picture "Chang".
