Photograph shows Tram 20 Westbound on Sturt St, just past Lydiard St. Destination is 'Gardens via Sturt St Nth'. Background shows Commonwealth Bank (Sturt & Lydiard Sts branch) and Colonial Mutual Life building. Circa mid - late 1950s. Tram 20 was severely damaged in a collision with a truck on 16/09/1970 at the intersection of Victoria & king Sts. All 3 people on board escaped with only minor injuries. Hand copied letters from the files of the Shire of Ballarat East and City of Ballaarat. 1 - dated 31/8/1880 asking for the concession to construct tramways in their district and one dated 19/10/1880 to the City of Ballaarat for the same purpose. Included is a letter dated 30/9/1880 from James Roberts, Supt trams to J. Smith recommending the type of car currently in use in Sydney as the "Yankee" car manufactured by Brill of Philadelphia. 2 - copy of letter dated 6/9/1880 about horse tram rails and support systems - signed by Jas R Davies. Black and white photo of ESCo No. 12 outside Wendouree Parade depot, post the 1912 installation of Motorman's windscreens. Both blinds rolled up. Has a roof advertisement for "Carter & Werner Opticians" and a step ad for "Eureka Cos. BO Punch". Seat backs face passengers to sit on the outside of the tram., that is have yet to be relocated to face inwards only. See image 757.2 - which shows this. Three copies of the photo - both from a copy neg. Copy 1, circa 1980, Copy 2, by John Phillips, 1993, Copy 3 ex Ken Magor, sent by Wal Jack to Ken. The rear of this print has extensive details on rear. Caption notes as the last tram to be given away and Mr. Bob Davies directing the move and that he has assisted in many of the moves so far. 953.2 - continuation of page 1 item on page 2 - about tram 32 being give to the Maryborough Chamber of Commerce. Destination roll used at the MMTB Footscray depot. Has stencil words "STOP" on bottom, stencilled miniature destinations on rear to assist drivers to locate the destination. Roll has a short unpainted section at the bottom. Destinations in order from top are: ; RUSSELL ST; BALLARAT RD; SPECIAL; FOOTBALL GROUND; AMMUNITION FACTORY; PYROTECHNIC FACTORY; CITY VIA HAYMARKET; SPECIAL E. The roll is missing a top section, possibly (based on a Footscray roll held in the BTM Archives), DEPOT; WILLIAMSTOWN RD; RAILWAY STATION, SPECIAL E - for the Explosives Factory. Through running to City from May 1954 when track extended and connected to main system. Set of two sheets of paper tickets - 3 x 1d and 2 x 1.5d, unnumbered for the Sandringham - Beaumaris electric tramway - possibly printed as a sample for discussion. This style of ticket was used for child fares. The reference pages 129 to 130 and figure 6-24 refer. This shortlived tramway 1926 to 1931 was known as "B Division" and would have allowed separate financial accounting.
