17th Aus Army Service Corps was one of the Militia Units in Bendigo 1912-1918. it was part of 17 BDE whose HQ was in Bendigo.1. Army form F21. Part thereof. it is white paper with black ink. It shows items issued by camp QM to 17th A.A.S.C. Bendigo Camp, they being 4 jackets dungaree, 4 trousers dungaree. 2. Army Form F21 Complete. Old whoite paper with black ink printng. it shows a host of items issued by the camp QM to 17th A.A.S.C. This is undated. They are still using .303 rifle: Dated 1970- 1962 original.This is a two sided copy of an original 38 Bn camp document. This copy is a yellow colour with black ink. This copy shows layout of tent, equipment and webbing. the drawing shows 8 men to a tent. Of interest is that item one a paillasse. The original had a light red stain in centre. This letter was written from Salisbury Plains, UK on 30 October 1916. It mentions the conscription vote. He has also passed his course for dealing with poison gas. He has been promoted to CPL. Enlisted 28.6.1940 as VX40780 age 24 years 5 months, embarked for the Middle East 5.2.1941, embarked for Australia 17.2.1942, disembark 17.3.1943, he marries Margaret Brennan, his record has the date of marriage listed 25.5.1942 Embark for New Guinea 13.5.1942, appointed Lance Bombadier 28.8.1942, hospital 3.7.1943 with Malaria/Dengue Fever, rejoin unit 27.7.1943, appointed Bombadier 3.10.1943 embark for Australia from Buna per HMAT Duntroon 28.11.1943, reported missing presumed dead on 30.11.1943. A Court of enquiry held on board ship 1.12.1943 concluded that between the hours of 0600-0930 he left the ship without authority on 30.11.1943 The day before bing the 29th the Duntroon collided with an American Destroyer (USS Perkins) at 0200 hrs cutting it in half.
