8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles Regimental CollectionUniform - VMR battledress
The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles was raised as a regiment of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps on 1 May 1948 with Headquarters in Melbourne and squadrons in Sale, Benalla/Wangaratta and Albury. In 1955 Regimental Headquarters moved to Wangaratta and a second squadron was located at Albury. The Sale squadron transferred to 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse. In 1977 8/13 VMR Regiment was reduced to an independent squadron A Squadron 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles and in 1991 was linked with 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse forming the VMR Squadron of that regiment.Khaki battledress jacket and trousers uniform complete with braces, shirt and tie. Black and white photograph of 2 trams at Preston Workshops c1948 First tram 500 is a W2 class tram built by MMTB at Preston Workshops in 1928. It entered service 27/4/1928 and was withdrawn from service and sold in 1981. The tram's destination is shown as "Special". The tram has been fitted "T" lettered taillights. The second tram, 198, is a Q1 class single truck straight-sill combination tram built by the MMTB at Holden St Workshops. It entered service in 1923 and was reclassified as a Q class tram. It was converted to all night service in 1937 and operated until 1957.
