Upon the sale of the timber yard and mill the catholic church the house was also sold to the church and was occupied as a residence for the school's teaching Sister's. Two handwritten extracts from the Bendigo Advertiser 17/6/1910 regarding the inrush of water at the Victoria Quartz Mine. 'When the inrush of water came on Tuesday night, the men had to make a hurried exit from the bottom of the shaft and 4254 ft. plat. The working equipment left below consists of three rock-drilling machines, air-winch, two trucks, about one ton of drills, while rails, air-pipes, etc, below the 3224 ft. plat are not likely to be recovered'. North Deborah Mine in Eve Street, Bendigo, operated between 1937 and 1954. In that time it produced 128,000 ounces of gold.Newspaper article titled '24 Tons of Winding Gear'. It has a picture of the winding gear being held by two large cranes. There is a low loader behind it. Some men are looking on. The winding gear was moved from the North Deborah Mine to the California Gully Railway Depot. It was purchased by Mr Arthur Holt and could possibly be sold to a mining company in Western Australia. One of the oldest houses in Eltham, the cottage was built around 1861 by pioneer builder George Stebbing whose family lived in it until the 1900s. It’s plain and simple style reflects the functional design of the house. George Stebbing was responsible for the construction of some of Eltham's principal township buildings, including the Uniting (former Methodist) church, St. Margaret's Anglican church (1861) and Shillinglaw Cottage (1879). These newsletters belonged to the Orbost Municipal Band. The Orbost Workers' Band and the Orbost Town Band amalgamated in 1913 to form the Orbost Municipal Band under the conductorship of Mr Charles Spink. The Orbost Municipal Band played a major role in the Orbost community activities. Charles Spink made sure each soldier returning home from the 1914 to 1918 war was welcomed home in front of the Shire Hall to the music of the Orbost Municipal Band. When 'Bolac Plains' was subdivided in 1846 Henry Gibb took up the northern end and he named the property 'Eilyer'. 'Eilyer' was bought from the estate of Henry Gibb in 1864 by Josiah and Thomas Austin. Gibb had been killed the year before when he fell from a horse. At the time of purchase, 'Eilyer' was 30,000 acres in size. It was later divided up and the second section become known as "Myuna". Alice Russell Shaw the daughter of Jessie Black Hamilton and John Shaw, married Albert Fisher in 1909 and had 10 children by him. They lived at Waterloo farm, Smythe's Road. Alice Russell Fisher (Shaw) was known as 'Queenie' Fisher. This family farmed in the Smythe's area for many years. They produced fine milk and butter. Jean, their second eldest child recalled that when they made the butter sculptures they used plenty of salt so that it wouldn't melt.
