Letter - KANGAROO FLAT GOLD MINE COLLECTION: LETTER BENDIGO MINING NL TO UNKNOWN
Letter and attachment, 21st December, 1983, from Bendigo Mining NL re proposed underground mining exploration Central Deborah, North Deborah and Deborah shafts referencing Town and Country Notice. Bendigo Mining's intention to dewater the Deborah mines and the discharge of same into the Bendigo Sewerage Authority, is discussed. The Town and Country Planning Permit Application attached details the pumping of water, rehabilitation of underground workings and erection of above ground facilities to achieve same. Use of the equipment already available on the site of the Central Deborah will'/ be utilised to pump the water. Three page handwritten document transcribed by Albert Richardson. On top of document: The Victoria Reef, Victoria Spurs, East Victoria Reef, Try McWell Reef and the Hercules Reef. Reference Dickers Mining Record, Vol 1, No. 1 Page g. November 23, 1861. Document details the location of the reef lines and some of the mines and claims along them. For example, page one: 'The main Victoria, really a continuation of the South Victoria, commences at a point to the west of the Mt Korong Road, where the high portion of the ranges is intersected by the head of the Iron Bark Gully, the southern most claim being Ballerstedt and Son's. Document - DIAMOND HILL, THE ENCLAVES
Four page, double sided copy of chapter titled 'The Enclaves' from 'Bendigo, The German Story'. Reference to the Heinz, Schroeder and Helm 'long tunnel' at Diamond Hill, described as the finest example of its kind on Bendigo. The 'German Arches' in the tunnel were constructed by miners who bought their skills and experience from the Harz Mountains. Other prominent Germans were Friedrich Adolph Hermann Schilling, Louis August Samuels and Ruschmeyer's, who owned the Town and Country Hotel, Diamond Hill. -
