This is the eighteenth issue of the annual Orbost High School magazine. The name Croajingolong derives from the Australian Aboriginal Krauatungalung words galung, meaning "belonging to" and kraua, meaning "east". 2213.1 belonged to Mary Gilbert, a former teacher at the school. 2213.2 belonged to Brenda Murray, a former mayor of East Gippsland Shire and a prominent Orbost resident. DREHER enlisted on the 6/5/1946 and served 20 years in the RAN as a Chief Aircraft Artificer (CAA) He served on HMAS Vengeance prior to deployment on the aircraft carrier HMAS Sydney in 1953.Approximately 17;000 Australians were involved in the Korean War between 1951-53 where 340 were killed 1,216 wounded and 30 taken as prisoners of war, and continued a peacekeeping role until 1957.Brown bound cardboard cover for certificate of service and enclosures in the Royal Australian Navy. By 1878 they were advertising gas stoves for sale and installation.The item is alphabetical customer list of T.J. Connolly, Ironmongers, Sandhurst. Each handwritten page lists the customer name and order number. Note: corresponding orders are not in this book. The book does not have a date reference in it. The book has a flexible cardboard cover and the pages are bound together with string. Orbost Town Band amalgamated in 1913 to form the Orbost Municipal Band under the conductorship of Mr Charles Spink. The Orbost Municipal Orbost Band played a major role in the Orbost community activities. Charles Spink made sure each soldier returning home from the 1914 to 1918 war was welcomed home in front of the Shire Hall to the music of the Orbost Municipal Band. The band played in the main street on most Friday nights. The various Orbost bands over the years played a major role in community activities providing entertainment and musical experiences for the many members.Five correspondence books with carbon pages. They contain outward correspondence related to the Orbost Municipal Band. 803.1 is dated March 1962 - May 1965. 803.2 is dated September 1972 - May 1974. 803.3 is dated February 1973 - July 1975. 803.4 is dated august 1975 - March 1977. 803.5 is dated March 1977 - 79. Court Astolat was chosen as the name for the Benalla Mehtodist Order of Knights in 1939. It is manor/castle in Arthurian legend where Sir Lancelot spent the night. The story of the naming of the Court is explained in E3112.73. The Methodist Order of Knights was the official youth organisation of the Methodist Church of Australasia. It originated in Hurstville, NSW, on the 4th October 1914 by the then Mr and later Rev Alex Bray. Alex Bray was a Sunday School teacher and spoke to his class of the Knights of the Round Table. In 1917 the Order of Knights was officially recognised by the Sunday School Dept of the NSW Methodist Conference. Courts spread thoroughout Australia. In 1927 the High Court of NSW called for designs for a badge and in 1929 the General Conference of the Methodist Church of Australasia recognised the Order as an approved Organisation. In 1938 the Senior Section was organised into Degrees of Sincerity, Service and Sacrifice; the Junior Section into Pages' Degree with advancement to Esquire. In 1954 the Junior Section was reorganised into two groups: Pages 8 to 11 years and Esquires 12 to 15 years. The Knight's Motto: "Live Pure, Speak True, Right Wrong, Follow Christ the King, else wherefore born?" Courts of the Order: General Conference Department of the Christian Education - General Court - Provincial High Court - District Court - Local Court - Senior Court - Intermediate Court - Junior Court . Regalia: All members of the Intermediate and Senior Courts wore regalia consisting of a cloth shield superimposed by a cross of light and dark blue ribbons, and supported by a cloth collar. Esquire and Degree of Sincerity regalia: White collar and white shield. Degree of Service regalia: Green collar and shield. Degree of Sacrifice: Scarlet collar and shield. District Court regalia: Blue collar and gold shield. High Court regalia: Gold collar and purple sheild. General Court regalia: Purple collar and shield. The model name ‘Ambassador’ and the series number M82, indicate that the typewriter was made sometime between 1953 and 1965. It demonstrates the working operations of the lightstation under the Commonwealth Lighthouse Service when it was managed by the Department of Transport, which introduced a number of modernising initiatives during this period.It has second level contributory significance for its historic value as an original item of office equipment. This book has been donated by Wilma Davies, a local idenity, and has her usuage in the book. Therfore this makes this item very good interpretive capacity.
