The Kew Historical Society’s fashion and design collection is comprised of costumes, hats, shoes and personal accessories. Many of these items were purchased or handmade in Victoria; some locally in Kew. The extensive hat collection comprises items dating from the 1860s to the 1970s. While most of the hats in the collection were created by milliners for women, there are a number of early and important men’s hats in the collection. The headwear collection is particularly significant in that it includes the work of notable Australian and international milliners.A natural undyed straw woman’s hat with a rounded crown and a wide brim. At the base of the crown there are added decorative elements comprising silk rosebuds and leaves and a purple ribbon. An example of the Liberation Medal, fifth class, issued by the government of Kuwait for service during the Liberation of Kuwait campaign in the Gulf War of 1990 to 1993. This medal was provided to eligible Australian service personnel however is not worn as an official service decoration. This medal is engraved with the following; Hillier D. N. service number 322256. These are made of Bronze with coloured enamel features and have a ribbon with red, white and green vertical stripes. The medal complete with a service ribbon, is in a plastic presentation case which is stored in a protective cardboard sleeve. -

Jacket, dark khaki, cream piping at cuffs and epaulettes, a scarlet bar over cream patches under the badges at the throat. Pale brass buttons with monogram "GR VII" inscribed "Australian Commonwealth". The regimental badges at the throat combine the Colonial Victorian Mounted Rifles badge with the Australian Light Horse. They show a golden kangaroo surrounded by two silver wattle branches and the motto "Pro Gloria" over "VMR" on a ribbon, all in silver.
