This building was demolished in 1975 when the extension to the existing Shire Offices were completed later in 1975.Prior to the Sunbury Waterworks Rust occupying this building, a hotel was built on this site in the 1870s and was known as Brown's Hotel. The photograph was taken when railway land on either side of the tracks was used for recreational purposes and agricultural related activities. The bluestone 'road over rail' bridge at Macedon Street is of state architectural, architectural, historical and engineering significance. It spans the first government regional railway. In the late 1960s St. Mary's Anglican Church was dismantled from its Oaklands Road site and rebuilt on land in Bulla township adjacent to the old shire offices. It was moved because of the interference it would create for aircraft landing in the new Melbourne Airport at Tullamarine. The bluestone bridge which spans the Jacksons Creek was built in 1857 and replaced a laminated timber bridge. In the early 1970s the eastern approach to Sunbury was changed. The stone bridge spanning the Jacksons Creek was replaced by a wider concrete structure and dangerous curves were taken out of the road. The two arch bluestone bridge which spanned the Jacksons Creek was replaced in the early 1970s with a wider double lane bridge. Dangerous curves were also taken out of the road. The fence and gates at the entrance of the Rupertswood Estate have a heritage listing. The Sunbury Newsagency and Sunbury News building was originally sited in Brook Street on the site of the present newsagency from 1900 to 1910. Eric Boardman continued to print the Sunbury News after the death of his father, Arthur, and until the newspaper was taken over by The Regional Group in 1965. In 1929 Eric Boardman took over the management of the Sunbury News in partnership with Harold Sparrow. The two men printed the Gisborne Gazette, the Lancefield Mercury as well as the Sunbury paper until 1956 when Mr. Sparrow withdrew from the partnership. In the early 1980s, the CBD of Sunbury bounded by Evans, Brook, O'Shanassy and Station Streets underwent major redevelopment. Military encampments took place in Canon Gully during the 1860s and the 1870s on property which was owned by the Clarke family. The Bulla Presbyterian Church and Manse were designed by Thomas Taylor. The Macedon Street Bridge over Jacksons Creek is important because it was built on one of Victoria's first important roads.
