The statue is a bust of George Evans who settled in Sunbury along the Jacksons Creek and built a homestead which he named 'Emu Bottom'. The statue was originally erected on the site in 1986 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of European settlement in the area. A time capsule was buried at the base of the statue and was lifted and opened in 2011 when the 175th anniversary was celebrated.
