Photo of a privately operated bus in Swanston St. Melbourne at the intersection of Bourke St., with Foys (Foy and Gibson) department store in the background. Bourke St. trams yet to be built. Photo taken 10-4-1950. Also has the Cosmopolitan Hotel in the background. From information provided by the Bus and Coach Society of Victoria: "The bus outside Foys belongs to Lew Page who was one of the multiple operators on Route 1 in 1950 ( he also had one bus on Route 2) which was four years before they amalgamated to form Melbourne - Brighton Bus Lines. The bus is a Reo with a Giles body. Giles Motor Body Works was based in New Street Brighton and built bodies for commercial vehicles but not a lot of buses. Their half a dozen post-war buses mainly went to operators in Routes 1 and 2. Being on Route 1, the bus would have been red and cream." Black and white (slightly sepia toned) photo of ESCo No. 8 - side on view of tram. Has Driver standing by front of tram, a person, possibly conductor standing by rear, though tram set up for one man operation. Good detailed side view of tram, showing arrangements of blinds, seats etc. Has "Suttons Pianos" advertisement on side and "Pictures Coliseum tonight" ad on the inside middle window. Tram has been converted to have windscreens. Three ladies on the front seat section of the tramcar. Date unknown. Post 1912. Tram still has magnetic brakes. The step section by the seats has not been covered over with sheet metal to prevent people standing on the steps, as shown in later photographs.trams, tramways, esco, 8, suttons pianos, ballarat, tram 8 -

Shows the newly formed tramway road surface, poles etc. Has "Snows" store sign on left hand side of photograph and buildings along the north side of the Sturt St. Other buildings shown are William Day & Son, Walter Connell, Anderson & Morse coach builders. Understood to be a copy of the drawing used on Ballarat TV channel 6's Christmas card for 1971. 890.2 - same drawing printed on one half of dark orange heavy paper, but without the words "from BTV6". Understood to be used as a Christmas card by the City of Ballarat for 1971. See btm6422 for a coloured large version. Black and white photo going to sepia toned, of about 11 W2's and many motor vehicles on Princes Bridge Melbourne, taken from the tower on Flinders Street station building, during the late 1930's. Many people on bridge, traffic jam of motor vehicles on the bridge itself. Note buildings at the Batman avenue terminus. Can see a tram trolley pole of a tram in Batman Avenue. No curve from Batman Ave. into Swanston St. At least two of the trams do not have route number boxes. 29 page document on A4 size paper, photocopied from a foolscap sized document, contained within a black plastic ring comb binder, clear plastic cover and dark blue rear cover. Memorandum and Articles of Association for the BTPS to enable the organisation to be registered under the Companies Act 1961. Gives names, addresses of the subscribers to the document, dated 24 August 1973. At the time was the current Board members. Witnessed by Imelda Mary Calnin. Subscribers were: Maurice Calnin, Francis (Frank) Hanrahan, Clyde Croft, Allan Harnwell, Warren Doubleday, Graeme Inglis, Geoffrey Cargeeg, Barry McCandlish, William (Bill) Kingsley and Richard Gilbert. This document was based on the Australian Railway Historical Society Vic. Div. and largely prepared by Shane McCarthy. Copies of reports and notes prepared by Hal Cain on the moving of trams to the new depot, depot access track construction and the construction of the depot. All on foolscap sheets, toner photocopies, with punched holes on the left hand edge. 914.1 - copy of a memo on the method of moving tramcars from the old SEC Depot to the Society's new building. Written on BTPS letterhead (see item 913) over two sheets of paper. Photocopied onto a single foolscap sheet of paper. In top right hand corner has notation "written by HAL 22/12/71". Last point - number 9 did not copy well and has lost most of last line - see 914.2 (Note by WAD - basis of method used for the movement of the first tram, but found to be very difficult and likely to damage the tramcars. Led to the laying of a temporary access track to the edge of the Wendouree Parade, which was used for the movement of the following five tramcars.) 914.2 - as for 914.1 but includes good text of point 9. 914.3 - copy of a report written by Hal Cain about the "Construction of connecting track in South Gardens Reserve from the Society's Depot to Wendouree Parade". On foolscap paper, with two punch holes in the left hand edge. In top right hand corner has notation "written by HAL 22/12/71".
