Bendigo Advertiser ''The way we were'' from 2000. Police residence: the former police barracks in Rosalind Park. Next to the goldfields warden's camp was the obvious place to house the police troopers. First there were tents, then a timber dwellings which, in 1859, gave way to a sandstone building. The Norman Oliver collection. Norman Oliver was three times Mayor of Bendigo - 1950-51, 1964-65, 1970-71. One typed page with City of Bendigo letterhead, titled and dated : British Commonwealth Youth Sunday 2nd May, 1965. Announcing the march to take place from the Town Hall to Rosalind Park. In November 1921 the Bendigo Baby Health Centre was established in rooms at the Town Hall. By Dec. 1925, the council offered two rooms at the Commonwealth Chambers, Charing Cross to be used for the rapidly growing service. In October 1934, council proposed the need for a purpose built Centre and the site in Rosalind Park was chosen in December of that year. The new Centre opened 7/4/1936. Sixteen colour photographs of Red Ribbon Re-enactment performed by members of the Bendigo Historical Society and students from Bendigo schools. Re-enactment started in Rosalind Park, near plaque commemorating the movement and proceeded through the Park to a point outside the Bendigo Art Gallery. The Temperance Society was formed in 1857 and in 1862 the foundation stone was laid for a public drinking fountain and reading room in View Street, Bendigo. In 1864, building additions saw the inclusion of a free library. The fountain, made of Buckeye Creek granite, featured 4 or more taps with drinking cups attached by chain. In 1895 further extensions on the site resulted in the current façade, leaving no room for the fountain.
