Cash registers were used by businesses to store the money received for the transactions of goods and for recording the amount of money taken over a period of time e.g.. a day. This cash register is pre 1966, pre decimal currency and includes the halfpenny.Dudley Pigram who managed the Mongan's Bridge Caravan Park used this register. He brought it down to the Mt Bogong Clay Target Club in the 1970's although it is pre decimal currency. Dudley wass a founding member of the Clay Target Club.This brass cash register has a serial number indicating that it was made between 1905 and 1906. It is very heavy. A black metal cash register with glass across the top where the amount of the sale is displayed. There are 2 rows of keys - the top row left to right - 8/-, 6/-, 4/- 2/- with white background, 11d, 9d, 7d, 5d, 3d, 1d with red background. This bowl was used by the SECV in their mess rooms for workers during the construction of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. The imprint of the year '1921' was to identify the year that the SECV was formed which relieved the private VHEC (Victorian Hydro-Electric Company). As the scheme was of such a huge scope, isolated and time consuming nature, the feeding of its workers was quite demanding of cutlery and crockery. The 5 mm thickness of the ceramic suggests this bowl (cereal / soup) belongs to a commercial kitchen environment and not domestic. The indent bottom of the bowl is 5 mm deep with a side curvature ratio of 2:5. The ceramic is glazed to a commercial standard (workers' mess). The Melbourne Olympic games were mainly conducted at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and were one of the most successful in terms of medals for Australia. Among the medal winners were Shirley Strickland, Betty Cuthbert in Athletics and Dawn Fraser and Murray rose in swimming. The games commenced in November 1956. The games were noted for the 19 Hungarian athletes who applied for asylum with their home country undergoing upheaval at the time. The Melbourne games also enjoyed the advent of television with the technology having recently been introduced to the country. These badges note ten of the many athletes who competed for Australia in 1956. These items are of social significance and interest. This book was one of several independent publications dealing with Australian and Pacific topics. The author, J. Alex. Allan, was a Councillor with the Historical Society of Victoria. The book is less important than the inscription on the first page which indicates that the book was a gift from the staff of Warrnambool High School to William L. Grauer, a teacher who was leaving the school in 1946. Mr Grauer, born in Warrnambool in 1915, became Supervisor of School Forestry in 1968 and served in in the Australian Army and Air Force in World War Two. The Grauers were a prominent early family in the Allansford area and descendants still live today in Allansford and Warrnambool. Warrnambool High School opened in 1907 as the Warrnambool Agricultural High School and merged with Warrnambool North Technical School in 1994 to become Warrnambool College. This book is of interest as it was given as a farewell gift to a member of the Warrnambool High School staff in 1946 and contains the signatures of ten fellow teachers, including the Headmaster, Roy Andrews. The recipient of the book, William Grauer, was a member of a prominent family in the Allansford area.This is a hard- cover book (Social and Economic Sketch of Victorian History) of 172 pages. It has a plain dark red leather cover with a buff-coloured strip pasted on the spine. It is by J. Alex. Allan and was printed in 1945. There are 19 chapters and an Epilogue. This book, a de-luxe copy, was given to John Dwyer as the Chief President of the Australian Natives Association from 1938 to 1940. The Australian Natives Association (A.N.A.) was established in Melbourne in 1871 as a benefit society. Originally membership was restricted to white men born in Australia. The A.N.A. was influential in Australian politics, especially in the 1890s when it campaigned vigorously for Federation. In 1993 it merged with Manchester Unity I.O.O.F. to form Australia Unity, for many years the largest benefit society in Australia. The annual Victorian Conference of A.N.A was held in Warrnambool in 1931. John Beynon Dwyer (1904-1999) came to Warrnambool in 1937 and assumed control of the legal practice in Kepler Street of Desmond Dunne, retiring in 1984. J. B. Dwyer was a long-serving City Councillor (1937-1975) and was awarded an O.B.E. for municipal service in 1966. This book is of considerable importance as it was a presentation copy given to John B. Dwyer, a prominent Warrnambool lawyer, when he retired as Chief President of the Australian Natives Association in 1940. This is a soft-cover book of 92 pages. This item is a World War One certificate featuring Walter Coulstock. Private Walter George Coulstock, an engineer, was born in Warrnambool and educated at the Warrnambool Academy. He enlisted at the age of 21 in August 1914, embarked in October 1914 and while travelling to Egypt he entered the machine gun section. He was wounded on the afternoon of the Landing and died of wounds in May 1915. He was buried at sea while in transit to Alexandria. Walter Coulstock was one of the many men and women from Warrnambool and district who enlisted in World War One and who died on active service.This certificate is of considerable significance as it is memento of Walter Coulstock who died in World War One. The Coulstock family was a prominent one in the Warrnambool district in the 19th and early 20th centuries and Walter is one of the local heroes of the Great WarThis is a paper certificate mounted on a frame of plywood. The mount indicates that the certificate has previously been framed. The certificate has a grey background and contains images of the British and Australian flags in red, white and blue, six black and white photographs, an image of H.M.A.S. Australia, an image of a battle scene with artillerymen and black and red lettering. Pasted on to the centre part of the certificate is a yellow piece of paper with a photograph and information on Walter Coulstock. Original bell from the first Eltham Fire Station in Arthur Street erected on a tower in November 1928, the station opened in January 1929. In 1988 the bell was mounted beneath a wooden sign of Country Fire Authority, Eltham Fire Station, 909 Main Road, Eltham. As of September 2023 the bell is in the same location, with the signboard gone, suspended in a steel metal tower-like frame. The bell has seen service at the original Eltham Fire Station in Arthur Street (1928-1931), Henry Street beside the Rechabite Hall (1931-1935), Main Road (east side, site of present-day Coles 1935-1965) and 909 Main Road (1965-present). Eltham Town Park was partially constructed on a tip site. The park and lake were landscaped in 1973-1974. As early as late 1980 a proposal to rename it Alistair Knox Park was met with significant community resistance with a petition of 1600 signatures against however Council ultimately pushed the name through in 1987. Eltham Town Park was partially constructed on a tip site. The park and lake were landscaped in 1973-1974. As early as late 1980 a proposal to rename it Alistair Knox Park was met with significant community resistance with a petition of 1600 signatures against however Council ultimately pushed the name through in 1987.
