Born in 1865, The Prince of Wales was proclaimed King George V following his father's death on 6 May 1910, and his Coronation took place at Westminster Abbey on 22 June 1911. As the second son of King Edward VII, George V was not next in line to inherit the throne—until his elder brother’s death in 1892. He succeeded his father in 1910 and was crowned in 1911, just over three years before the United Kingdom would enter World War I. At home, he was confronted with a divided Parliament, industrial unrest, and the task of replacing a resigning prime minister .In 1935, the King celebrated his Silver Jubilee. This event was celebrated throughout Australia and the City of Bendigo event was typical of such events. The King did not attend. A booklet produced about the Shrine of Remembrance. This is the 4th edition from April 1939 was revised from the original published in 1934. Part of the booklet is called "An Interpretive Appreciation" by Ambrose Pratt. It describes the parts the Shrine and some of its history. The other half is called "Historical Record" by John Barnes. It contains the full programme of the Dedication of the Shrine by the Duke of Gloucester in 1934 and photos of key aspects of the Shrine. Item was with other photos and programmes from different items relating to the Shrine of Remembrance - including discussions on its location and design. Labelled 'Shrine of Remembrance S1 - S14' it was part of an old archive numbering system, that showed there has been efforts in the past to collect, order and save items of Legacy's history. The Country Women's Association of Victoria was founded in 1928. It was formed to promote the interests of women and children in rural areas. Mabel Hedditch (1897 - 1966) moved to Australia and was postmistress in Bridgewater. Aswell as being elected to the Portland Town Council she was a founding member of the Country Women's Association of Victoria. The card relates to the Official Centenary Ball held in the Warrnambool Town Hall in March 1947 to celebrate the city's Centenary in 1947. Warrnambool was founded as a port settlement to service the farming interests in the area, with the first land sales held in Melbourne in July 1847. The leaflet is a programme of the Civic Memorial Service held in the Botanic Gardens in Warrnambool in February1952 on the occasion of the death of King George VI of England.
