"Until 1865, all wheeled traffic to the Upper Yarra District passed through Christmas Hills along present day Ridge and Muir roads, then followed the hazardous course of "The Breakneck" (now Breakneck Road) to the valley below. To slow the descent of wagons, logs are said to have been dragged behind.
