Canon Gully is situated about 2 km upstream from the railway bridge at Rupertswood. In 1864 it was the site for the military encampment of the Victorian Volunteer Forces. William Clarke allowed the military to stage the annual event on his property. Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church was designed by the architect William Wardell. Prior to the construction of the church, mass was conducted at the Daniel Home 'Narbonne'. The foundation stone was laid on 13/11/1804 by the Catholic Bishop of Melbourne, Rev. Dr. J. Goold and the church opened in 1875 with later additions erected in 1890.A coloured photograph of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. The brick building was constructed in 1911/1912 and replaced an earlier school building. In 1942/43 the school building was extended to cope with the increased population in Sunbury. The State School remained on the Macedon Street site until 1999 when it was relocated to the restored former Industrial School at Jacksons Hill.A coloured photograph of the former Sunbury State School No. 1002. The mounted photograph is one of a series used for display purposes. The water tower at Sunbury Station was built in 1861 by J. Bett. it is of state significance and is an indicator of the importance of the railway to Sunbury's expansion in the Nineteenth Century. Steam trains needed sufficient steam power to climb the steep gradients over the Great Dividing Range and the water tower at Sunbury was used to replenish the trains' water supply for the remainder of the journey.A black and white photograph of the water tower at Sunbury Railway Station. The bottle was donated to the Council by Hedley Elliott for an exhibition in the Art Gallery (George Evans Museum). Note that Goonawarra is misspelt on the label.Green glass bottle used for 1975 claret and bottled for the first Sunbury Fair. The label is printed in brown and cream and features a sketch of the Goonawarra Winery and surrounding area. There is a brief statement on the back about the winery and the background to production of the wine. On the back is a hand-written label, stuck on with clear tape giving an account of the origin of the bottle of wine, its donor and storage instructions.
