Typed information as follows: Originally the kitchen of the original Springhurst Carrier Arms Hotel, Circa 1913, was skidded to Donovan's property (Barnett Place) by John Wightons traction engine, and served as Springhurst Post Office until 1928. 1929-32 it was a general store, operated by Walter T Dawson. These eight girls all grew up in Rutherglen. From L to R: Sarah (mother of the donor Nelsa N Atkinson), Eliza (commonly called Tom), Kate, Alice, Florence, Jean, Vida, Grace Alice. They all went to the Rutherglen School where Sarah became a 'pupil teacher'. Lake King in Rutherglen Park is a man made lake and was the town's original reservoir for household water supplies. After the Water Tower was built, Lake King was used by the local children as a swimming pool.
