This history was put together by Legatee Ron Crosbie, branch secretary 1959-1963, 1968-1974 and 1995-1999. Appendix 4 gives an account of where the information was sourced from. This short history deails the formation until the branch combined with the Williamstown/Werribee branch to form The Western Branch. In quite some detail Ron Crosbie describes the gathering together of several Legatees to form the new branch. Also the change in priorities to be addressed as the years passed - the widows grew older, their needs changed, their children grew up and left school to be apprenticed, tertiary studies or other work. This book is the story of modern Warrnambool, describing aspects of the city from the 1980s to 2015. It looks at such topics as religion, law, population, housing, infrastructure, employment, industry, health, education and politics. The author, Gordon Forth, was formerly a lecturer in the Faculties of Education and Arts and the Director of the Centre for Regional Development at Deakin University in Warrnambool. He has written and edited a number of books dealing with Warrnambool and district history. William Buckley was born in 1780 at Macclesfield, Cheshire, England. After time as a bricklayer and soldier he was caught with stolen property, sentenced on 2 August 1802, and transported to Australia. Between October, 1803, and January, 1804, he escaped from Sullivan's Bay in the Port Phillip district and spent the next 32 years in the company of aborigines wandering between Port Phillip and the near western district as far as Lake Corangamite.
