He wanted to be a Mess Steward and was taken in as he had worked in similar work line. He then has 5 postings before embarking for Egypt on 2.4.1942 and was posted to No 3 SQD RAAF on 20.5.1942. Re mustered as a Motor Cyclist he became a Dispatch Rider on 8.9.1942 between the RAAF and the Army. Alex served in the Middle East and Italy with 3 SQD. He embarked from Egypt diagnosed with Kyphosis and Scoliosis on 5.2.1944. In Australia he was re mustered as Office Orderly on 6.7.1944 and then discharged from the RAAF on 2.10.1944 Medically Unfit. This section of aluminium sheet with Swastika is from a German ME 109 fighter that was shot down by RAAF pilot Brian Eaton over Libya in Nov 1942. Embarked for Australia 16.10.1915 classed as enteric fever. Classed fully fit he embarked for England 7.9.1916 as No 26673 in 3rd reinforcements 8th FA Brigade. Albert Jacka No 465 enlisted in D Coy 14th batt AIF on 18.9.14. Embarked for Eygpt 22.12.14. He rose through the ranks from Pte to Captain by 15.3.17. He was WIA 3 times and hospitalised twice with illness. Awarded the Victoria Cross at Courtney's Post 19/20th May 1915. The Military Cross at Pozieres on 7.8.16 and a Bar to the Military Cross on 10.4.17 near Queant. He was discharged from the AIF on 10.1.20. This is a very brief history of "Jacka".
