Photograph of Fitzroy, Northcote & Preston Tramways Trust (FNPTT) R class tramcar No.1 northbound on single track in Plenty Road, Preston approaching a double track loop south of Bell Street. The photograph looks southward showing an unsealed road surface with a few horse drawn carts, span poles and overhead wires, tramways overhead light above loop turnout and low density shop fronts. While this tramcar and track were constructed for the FNPTT, the line was only operated by the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board from 1920. This car would soon be renumbered 151 and relocated to other lines Melbourne.Yields information about commencement of the Preston tram line and the Fitzroy, Northcote & Preston Tramways Trust. Preston House and Shop, Sussex ...The white corner building was formerly a fruit and vegetable shop which was run by various generations of the Preston family, the last of whom was George Preston. The shop closed in the 1970s and this photo taken in 1988 shows it without its original verandah. Dean Hart afterwards purchased the weatherboard house as a residence and demolished the shop building on the corner.Colour photograph showing a green double-fronted weatherboard house in Sussex Street, Linton. Eleanor Hinde (1842-1902) was born in Lancashire England. In 1858, Eleanor married Richard Reynold in the Forest St Wesleyn Methodist Church in Sandhurst. They both gave their address as Sailors Gully Goldfields. They had seven children together. Richard was a skilled tradesman and after he died in 1872 from lung disease, Eleanor married Arculus Opie. Eleanor owned a property on the corner of Gladstone and Stanley Streets which later became an electrical substation. She sold poultry and eggs and preserves. One of Eleanor's sons, William John, married Anna (Annie) Jorgensen, and one of her daughters. Amelia, married Anna's brother Thomas Joynes Jorgensen. The Jorgensens founded and managed Jorgensen and Sons foundry and engineering works. Peter Jorgensen (1849-1914), was a mining contractor, he lived at, "Bro," Russell street, Quarry Hill. His firm was Jorgensen and Sons, mining contractors. He was a native of the Island of Alsen, Denmark. He left Denmark in the year 1861, embarking at Hamburg in a small sailing Ship. The four folders contain family history documents and photos of the descendants of Eleanor Hinde.
