Emmanuel College is the result of the amalgamation of St Ann's girls' college and Christian Brothers' College boys' school in 1991. Mother Philomene Maguire arrived in Warrnambool and commenced a Convent of Mercy and school with the consent of the then Bishop of Victoria, Bishop Goold. The school opened in Wyton House in Botanic Road. Brother Egan arrived in 1902 and set up a Brothers' group and school and 104 boys enrolled. Since its inception in 1991 Emmanuel College provides a broad education for students to Year 12 level. A number of students have achieved a high profile in the community, including footballer Jonathan Brown, television personality Dave Hughes, educatior Professor Colin Ferguson, musician Shane Howard, Olympic cyclist Michelle Ferris.This booklet briefly documents the history of Emmanuel College and its predecessors St Ann's and CBC and includes a list of their more prominent and well-known 'inspiring alumni'. This book, written by Katrina Hedditch, gives details of the lives and work of the 130 Australian nurses on the island of Lemnos in World War One in 1915. A number of these nurses were from the Western District of Victoria and among those was Sister Hope Weatherhead. Ellen Hope Weatherhead was born in Allansford and her parents were Henry and Ellen Weatherhead. She trained at the Melbourne Hospital and some of her experiences on Lemnos are recounted in this book. This book will be of considerable interest to those researchers and others interested in the work of Western District nurses during World War One.This is a soft cover book of 195 pages. Circa early 1900s. Flour was a staple ingredient of bread, as well as being used for general cooking. This 7lb bag of flour would have been purchased for domestic use by a housewife living in the Moorabbin district. Used bags were often made into shade blinds, underwear, sleepwear, aprons by the industrious early settlers who could not afford to waste any material.This flour bag is typical of the type that would have been found in every housewives' kitchen in the Moorabbin district. It recalls the fact that flour was being made in Melbourne. Unbleached, cotton bag., with faded black lettering. Sister Anne Boyd became the 1st principal of Galen Catholic College as a catholic co-educational college for Years 7 through to Year 12, following the merger of Galen Catholic College, Champagnat College & St. Joseph's College. She took over the helm at Galen College from Brother Ross Keane. Sister served as the school principal until Max Fletcher took over in 1987.
