Uniform - BATTLE DRESS, ARMY, Esquire, 1950 and 1981
John Bruce MacCathie. POB: Dalkeith, Scotland. DOB: 4 AUG 1923. WWII: He served in the Royal Navy, Service No C/JX340061. POST WWII: As a member of the British Armed Forces he applied to stay in Australia – the National Archives holds his application form. MARRIAGE: He married Isabel Noel Fulton in 1949, in Vic. AUST. MIL. FORCES: He joined the Aust. Army and served from 1953 to 1977. His number then was 35175 in the Royal Aust. Engineers. His last rank was Sergeant. Returned Service League: He spent some time as a member of the Castlemaine Sub Branch. DEATH: He died 28 JUN 2005. His remains are in the Garden of Remembrance, Springvale, VIC. FAMILY: He was survived by his wife Isabel ( dec 2020) and two children. Ribbons 1. 1939-45 Star 2. Atlantic Star with Rosette, 3. Africa Star with Rosette. 4. Italy Star, 5. Defence Medal, 6. War Medal 1939-45, 7. General Service Medal 1962, 8. Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.1. Jacket - Khaki, woollen. On both arms are Sergeants cloth stripes and a cloth badge for Royal Aust. Engineers. It has eight medal ribbons on left breast. 2. Trousers - Khaki, woollen. Zip fly, no cuffs on ankles. 3. Lanyard - cotton, black. This uniform was issued to “Gerald John Clancy" VX105938. Enlisted 23.7.1942. Discharged 15 April 1946, Rank Cpl in 29/46 Aust. Inf. Bn.1. Jacket. black wool. Four pockets held shut with silver buttons. Front held shut with four silver buttons. Each collar has a silver number badge - 1779. Each arm has a cloth badge marked "Corps of Commissionaires". Each arm also has a 75mm round badge with a 7 pointed star. It is surmounted with a crown. Inside the 'star' is a blue ring with the words "Service - Loyalty - Integrity". Inside the blue ring is a red dot. On that dot are symbols - Eagle, Anchor and a Rifle. Ob the left forearm is a 25 mm cloth badge with a silver letter "R". 2. Belt, wool, black. Silver metal buckle. 3. Trousers, woollen, black. 4. Tie, woollen, black. Red liner, fixed loop for neck. 5. Belt - black leather with silver buckle. 1. Jacket, Battle dress - Woollen, Khaki. On the arms are cloth badges, "ROYAL AUSTRALIAN CORPS OF TRANSPORT" and Sergeant's stripes. 2. Trousers - woollen, khaki. Uniform - COLOUR PATCH AND CHEVRONS, 1914-1919
The letter "A" is for "Anzac". Issued to those who served on the Gallipoli Peninsula and surrounding Islands, Hospital ships etc and worn as is on the Colour Patches. Instituted in 1917. Service Chevrons are worn on the right arm below the elbow of your uniform. The red one is for those who embarked in 1914, the blue, one for each year of service after. Instituted in 1918. These belonged to Frederick Campbell Moller No 2233 AIF. Refer 1661.3, 1682.5, 1663P. .1) Colour patches, 3rd Field Artillery Brigade, 2 red triangles set onto dark blue felt with a dark dot on the left red triangle.
