Newspaper clipping - untitled The Sun, Wednesday, Feb 5, 1975 Photo and text of new tramways bus 10 new orange tramway buses have begun service in the metropolitan area, 20 more being assembled in Sydney and should be in operation later in 1975. Built in England by Leyland and cost $32,000 each. Bus driver Bruce McRae of Thornbury said easier to handle, very manoeuvrable in heavy traffic and have very acute turning circle. Zilles Printers was begun by Lewis Zilles in the early 1930s. It was in McKenzie Street Ballarat. His son Jeffrey also became a printer - letterpress, offset and screen printer. The business became Zilles Printers/Graphics and was in Armstrong Street and later Bell Street Ballarat. Stencil has sections relating to various parts and functions of a cutting machine. He was a winemaker with B Seppelt and sons, Rutherglen for over 35 years. At the time of his death he was working as a consultant having left his position of Regional Manager when they sold their Rutherglen operations. Norman Mills joined the Victorian Civil Ambulance Service on 3 May 1956. He was initially based at the Lonsdale Street headquarters station and then at Ringwood. Norman later moved to the Latrobe Street headquarters where he took on various administrative and operational roles. Murray Comrie Collection. The building depicted was previously used for Barnes' Store at Waanyarra, later relocated to Tarnagulla. William Barnes was a tailor at Tarnagulla and Waanyarra in the 1860s. By the late 1870s the family was living at Grassy Flat. The building was located on the south-eastern corner of the Gladstone-Victoria Street intersection, and for many years housed the chaff-cutting operations of the Calder family. The building gradually fell into disrepair, and was completely dismantled in the 1990s. Has the letters T & B interwoven with the words "Tramway Board" on the base. The Tramway Board took over the operation of the Melbourne cable tram system in July 1926 and operated them until the advent of the MMTB in November 1919. Has been stamped with the name O J King or D J King on the rear. The cargo ship" Egyptian Transport" depicted in the painting was a cargo ship landing in Sydney Australia and transporting supplies via Honolulu America to the Western front. She was Captained by Captain Gordon Trent Chambers. He later Captained a vessel in 1940, the Titania used during Operation Dynamo rescuing British soldiers from Dunkirk in France. Set of photographs taken of the first women employed on SEC tramways in Geelong; as conductresses in 1942 (Also see Item 9258 and 9261). They are standing in front of a Duncan & Fraser tramcar that, perversely, was modified for 'one man' operation about ten years previous. On the tram saloon window behind then, people are being encouraged to lend to the war effort through War Savings Certificates.
