Donated by Cliff Marshall the brother of Clyde Marshal who was a RAAF Medical Orderly and served with 2 Squadron in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968.Australian servicemen on duty in Vietnam who smoked generally had Zippo Lighters. It was a smoking accessory that was widely known worldwide and made popular in Australia by returning veterans. Rectangular stainless steel liquid fuel cigarette lighter with flip up lid.Internally a pull out receptacle that contains cotton absorbent wad to soak up the liquid fuel, flint tube and wick. The exposed top half has the flint striker roller, exposed wick, flame shield and locking toggle.On flip up lid “CLYDE / MARSHALL” on reverse VIETNAM /67-68; on case [RAAF MEDICAL INSIGNIA]. The Anzac Commemorative Medallion was instituted 1967. It was awarded to surviving members of the Australian forces who served on the Gallipoli Peninsula, or in direct support of the operations from close off shore, at any time during the period from the first Anzac Day in April 1915 to the date of final evacuation in January 1916. Next of kin, or other entitled persons, are entitled to receive the medallion on behalf of their relatives if the medallion has not been issued. Design The medallion is cast in bronze and is approximately 75 millimetres high and 50 millimetres wide. The obverse of the medallion depicts Simpson and his donkey carrying a wounded soldier to safety. It is bordered on the lower half by a laurel wreath above the word ANZAC. The reverse shows a map in relief of Australia and New Zealand superimposed by the Southern Cross. The lower half is bordered by New Zealand fern leaves. The name and initials of the recipient is engraved on the reverse. The medallion is issued in a presentation box. Badge Surviving members were also issued with a lapel badge in the form of a small replica of the medallion to recognise their Gallipoli service. This badge is not issued to other applicants.This medallion was presented to A. F. Hoffman a survivor of the Gallipoli Campaign. Range cards are used to estimate ranges between certain objects or positions. Military personnel use range cards as temporary maps to identify objects and ranges for fire control and other military operations. Corporal Bob Gladwin served in Vietnam, but this range card would have been used after the Australian withdrawal from Vietnam in 1973. Range cards were everyday objects used by soldiers throughout the 20th century. They represent the day to day life of military personnel in bases and in the field. Legatees would organise collection of wood from the country and distribute it to widows in metropolitan Melbourne. Other slides show the cutting and loading of wood and delivery to widows in metropolitan Melbourne. Was with many other slides taken in the 1950s and 1960s. The slides have been photographed to make digital images and moved to archive quality sleeves. In many cases the original images were not well focussed and the digital image the best available.A record of Legacy helping widows by sourcing, supplying and delivering firewood. Bob (Herman) Hymans (a former member of the Royal Netherlands Navy was born in Bloemendaal, Holland on 30th September 1922. During World War II he fought against the Japanese in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) and was imprisoned in Changi and on the Burma Railway. After gaining qualifications as a Ski Instructor, Bob arrived in Falls Creek in May 1950. Working as an Instructor and Supervisor at Bogong Lodge, Bob decided his future was in accommodation. He was successful in negotiating an indenture for land from the State Electricity Commission (SEC). It took Bob two years to build his Grande Coeur Chalet but, tragically, it was burned down in August 1961. Bob also built the first Chairlift in Australia. This was a single chairlift and the structure was built from wooden electricity poles. He was constantly full of new ideas and proposals for the village. Bob Hymans died on 7th May 2007. This Collection of documents and letters tells the story of Bob’s endeavours to develop Falls Creek into the ski village it is today. This map is significant because it documents boundaries of early leases in Falls Creek Tourist Area.This map is part of Bob Hymans documents.
