The Mt Beauty Wine and Dine club existed during the construction of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme as part of the social life. These cards were owned by Nesta Drew nee Cooper. The Celebrity Concert dated 20th April 1956 was held at the Community Centre Mt Beauty during the construction of the KHES.A good example of social activities partaken during the 1950s in the Upper Kiewa Valley during the construction of the KHES. Nesta Drew lived on a farm in the Kiewa Valley.1. Buff coloured cardboard hand-made Christmas card sent to Richard Nicholson from the Mt Beauty Wine and Dine Club. Xmas 1954. and 2. This item is part of a collection of items owned by Athur Lock, a member of the 2/23rd Battalion, an all-volunteer Second Australian Imperial Force which served as part of the garrison during the Siege of Tobruk, then at El Alamein, New Guinea and Borneo. It has particular local significance as the battalion was know as "Albury's Own" because a large majority of the battalion's initial intake of volunteers came from the Albury–Wodonga region.A souvenir banner representing the 2/23rd Battalion - Albury's Own. The banner incorporates the insignia of the Commonwealth of Australia Military Forces. It also includes the Unit colour patch which is a lozenge shape, divided into brown over red, with a grey trim. Pickwick Clubs were established around the world in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, inspired by the first novel of Charles Dickens. A Kew branch was formed in 1897 and lasted until c.1912. Its membership was drawn from a number of notable Kew families. The club published two booklets, the first in 1904 and the second in 1912. In addition to holding meetings, club members performed in productions of Shakespearian plays in the Recreation Hall in Wellington Street Kew. Members of the club adopted pseudonyms based on characters in Dickens' novels.Literary publication of of artistic (literary) significance recording the social and cultural activities of a group of residents of Kew and its environs that operated from 1897 to c.1912. Robin Boyd was involved in creating several TV series for the ABC University of the Air. 'Design in Australia' was an eight part series. (Items D184-D193 contain all the manuscripts except part six titled 'Communications'.) In Part 2, through a brief discussion of the history of Australian houses, both urban and rural, Boyd points out distinct Australian qualities that differentiate the domestic houses from their European and American origins. Memorabilia - Medallions, c. 1953
These medallions, which belonged to Mervyn Thomas, were given in celebration of the 1953 Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Coronation authorities in the United Kingdom decided on a total number to be produced, then allocated a proportion to each of the Commonwealth countries and Crown dependencies and other possessions of the Crown. The award of the medals was then at the discretion of the government of each territory, which was left free to decide who was to be awarded a medal and why. Funnel used for drenching sheep. 2 holes were to allow for different quantities. The thumb was placed over the lower hole to use the higher dose. It was filled to the required level then tipped down the sheep's throat.Copper funnel sealed at the large end. Two holes on the side. This 0-6-2T locomotive was built by Perry Engineering Co. Ltd. of Mile End, Adelaide as their Builder's No. 7967.50.4 of 1950. It was used at Qanaba Mill, Bundaberg where it was known as No.1 "Delta". / Qanaba Mill No.1 No. 1 “DELTA” 0-6-2 TANK LOCOMOTIVE Gauge: 2 foot Built by Perry Engineering Company of South Australia in 1950 (Builder’s number 7967.50.4), “DELTA” is a medium sized Australian designed locomotive featuring Walschaert’s valve gear driving piston valves. Weighing 16 tons (16.3 tonnes) it was one of the post-war narrow gauge steam locomotives, which worked in the canefields of Queensland until 1978. “DELTA” worked at various sugar mills in the Bundaberg area and was finally withdrawn from service at Quanba Mill after a life of 28 years. Obtained by the Puffing Billy Preservation Society in 1981. Delivered to Australian Estates Co., Kalamia Mill named DELTA in 1950. Purchased by Fairymead Mill as No 20 DELTA. Purchased by Millaquin Sugar for Qanaba Mill as No. 1 DELTA, 1970 Withdrawn from service, 1978.
