Photo looks over Shoppee Square (Central median area) in Sturt St between Armstrong and Doveton Streets, with the Town Hall and John Snow & Company (Snows) building in the view, along with the national mutual building. An ESCo tram is westbound on the south side of Sturt St. Note the telegraph pole on the left side of the photo. One the rear is a birthday message to a person in Hamilton Newcastle. On the rear in a note to Ken Magor of Newcastle, Wal Jack has written: "Ballarat 1948, Bogie 22 to Gardens via Sturt St west, 4 wheeler 31 to Sebastopol, Bogie 34 to Victoria St, 4 wheelers ? behind to Lydiard St Nth." Parkin "Oakbank" Bungaree concerning the recent newspaper space given to the Lydiard St. railway gates issue and the return of trams to Ballarat. Refers to a previous possibility of reviving the Buninyong Line for tourist purposes. No objection to trams around the lake. Yields information about the style and printing of tickets used in Ballarat and Bendigo tramways and how they were presented.Block with one remaining ticket - red ink on off white paper, denomination 2d, over stamped in black "Concession" numbered 685999A, headed State Electricity Commission of Victoria, Provincial Tramways. Originally a block of 200 tickets been stapled onto a plain cardboard back with a heavy metal staple and a off white coloured cardboard retaining strip at the top of the ticket. The ticket price is in red ink while the ticket number itself is in black ink. On rear in red ink is a diagonal criss cross or tartan pattern.
