Wal Jack had an extensive range of correspondents throughout Australia and the world who often provided him with detailed drawings and notes on various tramway systems. This set of notes on the Auckland tramway system, both the main city, Auckland Tramway Board and the north shore - Takapuna Tramway and Ferry Co shows the various routes, locations and terminals. The hand written sheets provide opening dates of the various routes and gives the total miles and number of cars as at 31-3-1945. Kenneth JACK AM MBE RWS, (5 October 1924 – 10 June 2006) Australian watercolour artist Kenneth Jack who specialised in painting the images of an almost forgotten outback life; old mine workings, abandoned ghost towns, decaying farm buildings. He became a professional painter at the age of 39 after giving up his job as senior instructor at the Caulfield Institute of Technology. In 1977 he was elected to The Royal Watercolour Society and in 1982 was awarded the MBE, and the Order of Australia (AM) followed in 1987. Framed three block lino print showing the volcanic plains of Victoria around Stony Rises. It is Number 6 in the Volcanic Plains of Victoria series. This Ensign was last flown over “Lae” in New Guinea in 1946 by No 33 RAAF Transport Sqd. Item belonged to Maxwell Lennox Matheson No 418447 RAAF, enlisted 22.5.42 age 19 years. At discharge from the RAAF on 19.2.48 he held the rank of Flight Lieut. RAAF 33rd Transport Sqd ensign. Light green/blue fabric lower half, top right hand quarter. Union Jack in top left hand corner.
