Demonstrates the manufacture of uniform items and their use in uniforms for tramway crews in Ballarat and a larger set and a strong association with a SEC tramway employee.Set of twelve SEC uniform clothing buttons from a former Ballarat Tram driver. Each about 24 diameter, with SEC crest, 1921 and organisation name embossed onto outer surface, with backing piece and lug for sewing on rear. Nickel plated silver? Badges in varying condition of new to worn. Each has name of manufacturer stamped on rear part - "Stokes & Sons Melbourne". Donor of items 1259, 1260 and uniform jackets. Preprinted Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board form with rounded corners, as a Certificate of Service for Leslie James Denmead, dated 29 Dec. 1948. Form 3/278, July 1947 typed with Name, positions held and dates From to Until. All entries have been underlined in red. Gives date of leaving, conduct and service ("Excellent") and signatures of person and Manager. Held positions of Conductor, Bus Driver, Bus starter, Inspector. Signed by L. J. Denmead and by J. Rigaldi (?) District Officer, for the Manager, F. G. Wraith. Sheet has a watermark "BANK M EXTRA STRONG" Not in good condition, has been repaired with 'sticky tape' and is torn. Functional Object - Cap Badge, Stokes & Sons Melbourne, "Chief Inspector", 1930's?
Cap Badge for the "Chief Inspector". Made from cast brass to indicate the position held by the wearer on their cap as part of their uniform. Cast in the form of the handwritten or script word/s and underlined. On the rear, silver soldered on are two brass loops at either side of the badge to enable to be sewn or fitted with clips onto the cap. On the back of the back of the badge in very small letters is the name of the manufacturer - Stokes & Sons / Melbourne. Used by the SEC only? Assumed collected by Les Denmead from spares held by the SEC. Note the same manufacturer logo as for the "Tramways Superintendent", Reg. Item 1939. tramways, trams, cap badge, hat badge, uniforms -

Nine Page photocopy of a Westinghouse manual for Westinghouse S6-A and S6-B Compressor Governors (often known as Beatle Back type). Includes cross sectional diagrams of both compressors, photographs, connection diagrams, and detailed descriptions. The descriptions include notes on the compressor, switch portion, regulating portion of the device, regulation and adjustments, setting of cutouts, installation and maintenance. Originally prepared by Westinghouse, Wilmarding PA, USA, 20/9/1916. Retyped by MMTB 5/1955 and provided to Warren Doubleday from Preston Workshops c1980. Copy contained within a stapled and bound manila folder with handwritten title on outside. 2nd copy added 9-6-2019 from the Melbourne Tram Museum - in a manila folder with a black binding. 3044.1 SEC (Geelong) Motorman/Drivers/Conductors cap - green cloth exterior, grey cotton interior lining, brown leather internal hat band, black cotton hat band on exterior. Black plastic peak fitted with cap or with four holes for the employee badge number in the centre of the cap above the hat band. Sewn on the inside is a label "Commonwealth Government Clothing Factory Melbourne" and stamped "7 3/8". The plastic band at the front half of the cap terminating in two small SEC metal buttons on either side is not present. The holes for this are not visible - may not have been present on Geelong caps? 3044.2 - two small SEC Button badge - nickel plated silver with "Stokes" "Vic" stamped on rear. See also Reg. Printed black and white postcard of the Sturt St looking west from Grenville St. Has the large gas lamp in the centre of the intersection with Grenville St. Card had a stamp on the photo side, but has been removed - only the remnants of the gum and postmark remain. No horse tram lines visible. Photo assumed to be pre 1887. Written on the front "Best Wishes from Dorrie ?" and date "8/4/06". Printed along the lower edge "Published by Victoria Stamp Market, Melbourne" and "Printed in Germany". On rear is places for stamp, address only. Addressed to Mss L Schwarz, Waiwhitu Road, Lower Hutt, Wellington New Zealand. Written on the stamp position is "The ........ on other side". Titled "Gen. Sixty page, side stapled (3) book glued within brown Rexene heavy card covers with printed paper sides. Titled "Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board / Rules and Regulations / Relation to Drivers and Conductors / (Electric System) / 1935. Has stamped number "498", issued to "L. J. Denmead 1584". Provides for 214 General Rules - in four sections - General, Accident Prevention, Procedure in Case of Accidents, Tickets, Fares Cash etc and By-Law No. 5 - General dated 4/5/1922. On both inside covers are printed warning messages about safety. On the inside cover in ink "L. J. Denmead 1584" and on title sheet "Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society Catalogue No. 305" in ink.
