This photograph was made by A.P. Winzenried in 1990 as a possible illustration in, "Green Grows Our Garden." Note by T.H. Kneen 18 March 1992, "Query: date recorded on photo 8 March 1935. M. Younger is recorded as graduating 1938 in, "Green Grows Our Garden" and was probably a student in 1936 & 1937. Similarly for M. Atkins. This small book, a prize given to George Powell in 1891, is believed to have come from the Warrnambool South State School. The signature in the book is that of John Sloss and he was the first Head Teacher of Warrnambool South State School which opened in 1877 and closed in 1995. The Powell families were in business in Warrnambool in the 1890s and the recipient of the prize may have been George Powell who was born in Warrnambool to George and Kate Powell in 1878. This book is of considerable interest because it appears to have been a prize awarded by Warrnambool South State School in 1891. The book is one of the few items we have connected to the early years of the Warrnambool South School. The book is a mixture of fact and fiction and the stories are meant to be instructive as well as entertaining.This is a hard cover book of 62 pages. The cover, dark green with a coloured floral pattern on the front and back, has been partly detached from its cloth binding. The book has several black and white sketches, with some pages missing at the beginning of the book. There are advertisements for other books on the inside of the covers. The pages and the cover are much stained. The 2/24th Australian Infantry Battalion Association was uniquely granted the Freedom of the City by the Rural City of Wangaratta in 1990 - to our knowledge the only/first Battalion Association in Australia to be granted this honour. A copy of the Anzac Day Address at the Anzac Commemoration Ceremony for Students in 1989 which was subsequently published in the Legacy Bulletin. Also a copy of the Media Release published by Legacy to promote the event. The ceremony provides a valuable opportunity for students to gain an appreciation of the Anzac spirit, the significance of the Shrine and the meaning of Anzac Day. The ceremony is usually attended by the Governor of Victoria, however, in 1990 the guest making the address was Commodore J.S. "The Association was officially launched in November 1967 with the aim of preserving and maintaining good relations and understanding within the cattle industry and between that industry and all bodies and organisations with which the industry is associated in the spheres of Government, and land use and marketing." (ref Mountain Cattlemen's Association web-site) Since 1972, the Mountain Cattlemen’s Association of Victoria, have produced a journal, “The Voice of the Mountains”. This journal commemorates the activities and history of the previous twelve months and bygone years of cattlemen and their families. This item was used in the library of Orbost Secondary College. These four photographs were taken during a 2/4 RAR Pipes and Drums visit to the Army Survey Regiment, Fortuna Villa, Bendigo probably in 1990. Although the reason for their visit is unknown there were several events held at the time commemorating the 75th anniversary of the formation of the Royal Australian Survey Corps, such as the Freedom of Entry to the City of Bendigo Parade, an Open Day, visits by the Prime Minister Hon. Souvenir Teaspoon featuring Ballarat tram No. 27 in an oval inset at the top of the tea spoon, contained within a plastic case. The teaspoon made by Perfection Plate, of the Celest style or type. The case has yellow plastic base, with clear top with the words "Celest by Perfection" On the rear of the case is the wording "Perfection". The teaspoon is silver plated, with the tram in a picture about 23mm long. The teaspoon is marked "Celest" on the rear. Tea spoon is 120mm long x 25mm wide.
