Set of five colour photographs by Ron Hood in early Sept. 1971 at the intersection of Sturt and Lydiard Streets. 1 - tram 30 (Mt Pleasant) and No. 35 at the stop. 2 - tram 35 (Lydiard St Nth) turning from Sturt into Lydiard St. The Tram has an electric cooking roof advert 3 - tram 40 (Sebastopol) turning from Lydiard St Nth into Sturt St. 4 - tram 41 (Lydiard St Nth) arriving at the stop. In the background are Craigs Hotel, HBA and the National Mutual life buildings, along with Allan Bros, Berry Anderson and the Town Hall. 5 - tram 42, Gardens Via Sturt St West waiting at the south side stop in Sturt St. Shows the tram stop. Official M&MTB photograph showing M class 187 on an outside road at South Melbourne Depot in 1925 with trolley pole raised and all canvas blinds up. The new-style destination box reads "City" and the auxiliary board "via Toorak Rd". This car had numerous owners. Built for the Hawthorn Tramways Trust by Duncan and Fraser, Adelaide in 1918, it was then purchased by the Footscray Tramways Trust and moved to Footscray Depot by the M&MTB. It was reallocated to Essendon Depot around 1924 and then South Melbourne Depot before being sold to the SECV and allocated to Bendigo Depot.Yields information about M class trams.
