Glass chimney from a Melbourne Cable tram oil headlamp - base partly broken and top broken off and damaged - four fragments from original. Has a note that the lamp was restored by Alf Twentyman, later take by Norm Maddock for the Stanhope St Museum. Written by Robert Green Feb. 2015. The chimney has dirt marks on the inside. A souvenir from one of the last trams to Port Melbourne. Both the South Melbourne and Port Melbourne cable lines closed on this date. The South Melbourne line was converted to electric traction; the Port Melbourne line was replaced by a bus service. See item 7595 for another bell cord from the same event.Has a close association with the closure of the Port Melbourne cable tram line.Bell cord - for a grip car bell - consisting of a wooden turned handle fitted with a screw at the bottom, a length of sash cord and a cast iron end to which the rope has been glued or fastened into and a hook that went on the underside of the bell itself. Trolley Wheel - cast brass, fitted with a cylindrical bush in the centre. Used on Melbourne trams until the late 1950's when changed for trolley skids to bring the power from the overhead into the tram. Set of four colour slides of PCC car 1041 on its debut trip, but that broke down at the corner of Gertrude and Nicholson St. TMSV copy slides. Photographer unknown.
