Used by Ettore Alessandri who came to Australia in 1930's. He had land at Marlo and used this jack to clear the property of trees and stumps in 1940's and 1950's. The Trewhella Monkey jack was invented by the Trewhella brothers to help land clearance in Australia during the 1880's. Two jacks were made a 5 ton and a 10 ton. This item is a 10 ton model having two extension bars. The longer spear is used for larger tree work and the smaller spear for general work and small trees. Both models had two lifting claws at different heights. Th lower claw was useful for roots. The top claw was intended for going under loads and the bottom claw used for rolling timber. In 1929 the cost of the 10 ton model was thirteen pounds ten shillings.This item is an example of the machinery used by the early settlers to clear land. A 10 ton monkey jack. It has two extensions (spears) and two lifting claws. From Barkly Street, Ballarat. Winners: 1956 United, Junior Star of LaTrobe; 1957 Brookes, Burwood Rd; 1958 Brookes, Burwood Rd; 1959 Rosanna; 1960 South Camberwell; 1961 South Camberwell; 1963 Sunshine. The Methodist Order of Knights was the official youth organisation of the Methodist Church of Australasia. It originated in Hurstville, NSW, on the 4th October 1914 by the then Mr and later Rev Alex Bray. Alex Bray was a Sunday School teacher and spoke to his class of the Knights of the Round Table. In 1917 the Order of Knights was officially recognised by the Sunday School Dept of the NSW Methodist Conference. Courts spread thoroughout Australia. In 1927 the High Court of NSW called for designs for a badge and in 1929 the General Conference of the Methodist Church of Australasia recognised the Order as an approved Organisation. In 1938 the Senior Section was organised into Degrees of Sincerity, Service and Sacrifice; the Junior Section into Pages' Degree with advancement to Esquire. In 1954 the Junior Section was reorganised into two groups: Pages 8 to 11 years and Esquires 12 to 15 years. The Knight's Motto: "Live Pure, Speak True, Right Wrong, Follow Christ the King, else wherefore born?" Courts of the Order: General Conference Department of the Christian Education - General Court - Provincial High Court - District Court - Local Court - Senior Court - Intermediate Court - Junior Court . Regalia: All members of the Intermediate and Senior Courts wore regalia consisting of a cloth shield superimposed by a cross of light and dark blue ribbons, and supported by a cloth collar. Esquire and Degree of Sincerity regalia: White collar and white shield. Degree of Service regalia: Green collar and shield. Degree of Sacrifice: Scarlet collar and shield. District Court regalia: Blue collar and gold shield. High Court regalia: Gold collar and purple sheild. General Court regalia: Purple collar and shield. Second attachment to above letter of a memo detailing information about Glen Eira mansion form History and Heritage Officer at City of Glen Eira together with an image extract of birth notices from the Argus 22/5/1863 re the birth of a daughter to W.Lamborn Esq on 20/05/1863 at Glenalry house Caulfield Third attachment to above letter of questions and parish plan image re properties including area occupied by Glen Eira from Heritage Officer St Kilda Historical Society Southern Scenarion quarterly newsletter of the Royal Southern Memorial Hospital Issue No. 7 Winter 1988. It contains a black and white photograph of Glen Eira with a brief history of the residence and owner on P 2 plus an article on P 3 about the bequest from the late Rudolph Ashley Ricketson for the Ashley Ricketson Centre in the hospital. Demolition of the mansion occurred in 1965. Newspaper article (source & date unknown) about the bequest from Ashley Ricketson of $10.5 million to the Southern Memorial Hospital in Caulfield. It is on the site of Glen Eira, demolished 4 years prior. This file contains five items pertaining to Lieutenant William Thomas Dartnell, also known as Wilbur Taylor Dartnell: 1/A page of handwritten research notes by Anne Kilpatrick, dated 17/06/2014, describing the resources available online pertaining to Dartnell. They note, among other things, that his name has sometimes mistakenly recorded as ‘Dardnall’ or ‘Dartuell’, and that although it is unclear whether he ever lived in Murrumbeena, his widow did. 2/A printout of a paragraph article from the Oakleigh and Caulfield Times Mulgrave and Ferntree Gully Guardian, dated 22/01/1916, accessed via Trove on 28/01/13, noting that Dartnell has posthumously been awarded the Victoria Cross.
