The Melbourne Tramways and Omnibus Company (MTOC) operated a horse tram from the Victoria Bridge cable tram terminus to Boroondara General (Kew) Cemetery from 28 December 1887. The Kew City Council purchased the line in 1914. It was replaced with an electric tramway in 1915. Photographic print. Kew Horse Tram outside the Kew Post Office and Court House. Gives a brief history of the electric tramway operated by the Victorian Railways between St. Kilda Station and the Brighton Beach railway station, that commenced operation in 1905. The booklet was priced 2/-, published by the Traction Publications. Has 18 photographs, map 1905 and present day (when printed), rolling stock roster and notes and on the rear cover has details of the AETA. Front cover has horizontal crimson stripes. Has details of the AETA on the back cover and listing of some publications. First clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, Monday, 28/4/1971 about a plan by Mr Donald Fraser of Lindfield (NSW) to retain the tramway around Lake Wendouree and use Sturt St. as well as Ripon St. Item has map (see image) showing the proposed route and some comments about tramway museums, museums in general and static preservation. Part of the item in the first column is missing. Second cutting dated 3/5/1971 with headline about the possible revival of horse drawn trams in Ballarat. Item also looks at Council's Tourism Committee considerations for retaining trams in Ballarat, relaying lines, reconditioning overhead, looks at costs of running horse drawn trams versus electric trams. Black and white photograph of SEC Ballarat No. 21 decorated for the 1969 Ballarat Begonia Festival. Photographed at a Wendouree Parade crossing loop by Brian Weedon 2/3/1969. Tram is painted white - based on the Myer's Christmas tram of 1968 (See Reg. Item 1881) and used later for the Ballarat Base Hospital Appeal May 1969 Begonia Festival (See Reg. Item 1885). Theme: Festival Showboat. Tram has destination of "Gardens via Drummond Nth", a sign under the headlight "Begonia Festival Feb. 28 Mar. 10". On the side of the tram has the various festival activities within circles and a paddle wheel with the words around it of "Festival Showboat" The roof advertisement board says "Ballarat Begonia Festival Feb. 28 March 10th 1969" and on the base of the sides a sign saying "Wave upon Wave of Festive Activities". 1890.1 - Black and white copy photograph of a damaged photograph of a ESCo Bendigo tramcar at Charing Cross, Bendigo, c1905. Original photograph has been damaged - mounted onto a sheet of card, with "WHO. Robinson - Photo - Bendigo" printed onto the sheet. Tram photographed side on, has not been fitted with windscreens. has a "Silver Star Starch" roof advertisement and has "Bendigo Tramways" painted onto the side of the tramcar. In the background of the photograph are buildings in Gardens area that front View St. Also the Shamrock hotel can be seen in the distance. 1890.1 - copy of same photograph but with a better reproduction and repair of the print. 1890.3 - Electronic copy of same photograph donated by Ron Hann on a CD of photographs given to him at the time of his visit in January 1963 by the Manager. Badge - SEC pass - set of 27, AMOR, c1950?
Set of 27 Stamped enamelled round brass pieces with a hole stamped at the top and ring placed through. Used as a SEC tramways employees pass for either all Provincial tramways, Ballarat or Bendigo only. All badges have the SEC logo in the centre, organisational name (State Electricity Commission of Victoria) in white enamel and outer ring the words "Electricity Supply Department, Provincial Tramways", or "Electric Tramways Ballarat" or "Electric Tramways Bendigo". This is in blue enamel. On the rear are stamped numbers and manufacturers name - "AMOR" or "AMOR MELB" or "STOKES & SONS MELBOURNE" in the bottom portion of the pass. Items .1 -> .10, .12, .13 individually tagged. Single truck, (4 wheel), drop end California Combination tramcar, reconstructed to as built Condition, cross bench seats in drop ends, longitudinal seats in centre saloon, 2 sliding doors internally, air braked.
