Demonstrates how ESCo managed Weekly tickets during the late 1920's and yields information about the way the system was arranged. The source of the ticket, NSW tramways is significant in that it was obtained by them as a sample.One penny or 1d paper ticket, ESCo, Ballarat Tramways, printed on fawn paper, No. D3339. Ticket has up and down directions, conditions of use, not issued on public holidays, special cars or railway picnic days. Front of the ticket (with the number), has it available for: Bridge and Drummond St Sturt St and Macarthur St Macarthur St (Junction Wendouree Parade and Gardens) On the rear - the ticket is made available for use by a child in the following: Orphanage and Grenville St Mt Pleasant and Grenville St Bridge St and Service St {stop along Sturt St West} Bridge St and Macarthur (via Fraser St) {Alan Bradley advised 29/6/14 by email, former name of Ripon St North once it crossed over Mair St heading north. - see note below} Sturt St and Gregory St (via Lydiard) Hello Warren, The View Point line leaves Sturt St and turns into Ripon St. It crosses Mair St, does a dogleg, and went into Fraser St. then past the Powerhouse. The descriptions of the horse tram lines to be constructed by the BTCo, and the electric lines to be constructed by the ESCo, specify that the lines run along Ripon and Fraser Sts. Demonstrates a souvenir item for the opening of the electric tramways in Ballarat in the form of a postcard, one of which has actually been used to send a message. Has a strong association with the people who sent and received the card.608 - Postcard size Souvenir Tram ticket, printed using blue ink on one side with fare, photos of power station, engine room, boiler room and a tram & No.11162 stamped on edge. On reverse side is space for stamp, address etc., - with line & "postcard' etc., printed in red ink. Letter/note to Mino Loveday Hutchins c/o P.O> Queenscliff. No date. Fares given on card are : Mount Pleasant and Orphanage and Grenville St. 3d, or Grenville St. and Tram sheds 3d. Printed in a blue/grey ink of various shades onto a white card. Souvenir 608.1 - as above, numbered 11308, has been punched on lower edge near right hand corner. Has been used as post card to a person in Alexandria?, but rear has been eaten by silverfish or similar. Did have a date stamp of "28-8-0?" See also Reg Item 2488, page 28 for ticket number 1595. Has maps and photographs. Written by Keith Kings and published by the Victorian Division of the Australian Railway Historical Society at the time of the closure of the Ballarat system. Inside front cover is a typed sheet of amendments for the book - typed on Charles Martin Watermarked paper. Fitzmaurice dated 30-11-1989 - titled "A New Deal for Tram Drivers", one page, regarding the phasing out of the tram conductors and increase in wages. .2 - ditto, dated 2/1/1990, two pages regarding the unauthorised use of a Met vehicle - occurred the previous day. .3 - Letter from Jim Kennan (Minister for Transport) and Neil Pope (Minister for Labour) - dated 4/1/1990, on Victoria Transport Letterhead, giving a guarantee to conductors. .4 - Letter from K. Details the various section stages and fares for each tram and bus route, General instructions, concession fares and has photos or drawings of the various special tickets, eg passes or prepaid tickets. Book consists of four sections, sewn with end papers part of the covers. Second copy added 15-6-2015 - from Ron Scholten donation of 11-4-2015. Forty Eight page, side staple book within blue Rexene covers. Titled "Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways /Electric System /Instructions to Drivers in Electric Car Operation" Dated 1966. Printed by Regent Press Pty Ltd, 457 Plenty Road, Preston. Provides in a Q & A format, instructions to drivers in electric car operation, photos of various types of controllers, an A.B.C. for tramways drivers - "always" points to remember and has a reference index. Copy 1 - has telephone numbers of Training School and specific pointers re Regulations 106 and 107 and some of the Q&A have been circled in blue. This copy was imaged. The May 1974 instructions of "Tram car Braking on Greasy Rails", has adhesive tape remnants. Copy 2 - 1/5/1975 instructions loose inside the book. Copy 3 - added 29/5/2014 from the collection of R. Wearne. Copy 4 - added 15-6-2015 - from Ron Scholten donation of 11-4-2015. Copy 5 - added 14-12-2015 from donation of Norm Cross 11-10-2009. This folder contains 3 copies of photographs plus notes about the Glen Huntly Fire Station: 1/A print of a small black and white photograph (95mm x 127mm) of the exterior of Glen Huntly Fire Station accompanied by typed notes sourced 13/03/2007 from the Melbourne Fire Brigade Museum. The notes indicate that the fire engine shown parked out the front was in service 1919 to circa 1924: Car 55 Rego 8499 Hose Carriage Engine No. 3178 Napier. 2/An A4 sepia copy of the same photograph (210mm x 291mm) with street advertising of one of the shops clearly visible: 'DRAPERY EMPORIUM. UNDERCLOTHING BABY LINEN; HOSIERY HABERDASHERY MILLINERY'. The electric tram at the terminus on Grange Road is also seen in the photograph. Written on M&MTB letterhead, with "Dear John" and author's signature "Bob Risson" handwritten in. Has been folded into four for posting. On quarto size paper, with watermark "Loganvale / Parchment / Made in Britain". Gives M&MTB phone numbers, postal and street address and telegraphic address on letterhead. 990.2 - Typed letter from Chairman of M&MTB (Robert (Bob) Risson to Mr. John Grimwade dated 29 April 1965, concerning tramcar design and deputy chairman (Mr. Kirby) forthcoming overseas trip. Written on M&MTB letterhead, with "Dear John" and author's signature "Bob" handwritten in. Has been folded into six for posting. On quarto size paper, with a watermark "? / RAG ? / Made in Australia". Gives M&MTB phone numbers, postal and street address and telegraphic address on letterhead, different design to 990.1, including phone number. Above the "Dear John" an imprint from of another sheet of paper, has been imposed on the sheet - grease mark? about 15 in diameter. 990.3 - Copy of interoffice memo from Deputy Chairman (Mr. Kirby) on yellow paper, dated 27 April 1965, replying to Chairmans memo of 26 April 1965, about the design of new trams, with steps inside the doorways. Signed by Mr. Kirby. Has been folded for mailing. Has left hand edge partly folded in. 990.4 - Copy of interoffice memo from Chairman (R. Risson) to Deputy Chairman, about a suggestion by Mr. Grimwade about running boards and the width of trams. Notes Chairman's view that the policy of running boards was deliberate in order that cars collided with them first rather than the tram body. On blue paper. Signed by the Chairman. Yields information about the an unusual accident with a milk cart, no horse in the view, on the Mt Pleasant line outside a milk bar.Black and White copy photograph of a newspaper photograph taken by The Courier - Bogie car after collision with horse drawn milk cart, Barkly & Gladstone Sts corner. Photo taken 28/6/1966, published 29/6/1966. Has Frampton's Milk bar in the left hand side of the photo with a Peters ad, workers recovering bottles. Note the milk in the grooves of the track. Would appear tram was inbound with destination of Gardens via Drummond St. Nth, member of the crew reversing the tram to assist in the clean up, with an inspector at the far end. Divided back postcard with details of the maker on the right hand side, MV symbol and a space for a stamp. In the view are Lester House, Tunbridges, Crockers and the Post Office Tower. Certificate, Western Australian Government Tramways and Ferries
Two certificates issues by the Western Australian Government Tramways and Ferries to a tram driver and a trolley bus driver. 4287.1 - Certificate No. 1031, originally printed for the Western Australian Government Tramways and Electricity Supply, but overtyped with the word "Ferries", issued to Ian Arthur Johnson for the position of Motorman on 3/11/1949 and signed by the General Manager. The word commissioner has been crossed out and replaced in ink "General Manger" 4287.2 - as above, certificate No. 1219, newer printed certificate for the WAGT&F, for Ian Arthur Hensworth Johnson, dated 29/5/1951 as a trolley bus driver. tramways, trams, perth, trolley buses, motormen, certificates
