Hotel built as single storey 1877" The hotel has a long association with the Reddish family, thus given the name of "Daisy's Hotel". Document - Tourist Hotel Project
State Electricity Commission (SEC) outlined details of a site available for the development of a Tourist Hotel Project in Falls Creek in late 1962/3. SEC estimated that by the winter of 1963 Falls Creek Village would be able to accommodate 500 persons. The site for development was up to 2½ acres adjacent to the Upper Kiewa Valley Road. It envisaged a building able to accommodate about 100 guests. The successful developer would be granted a lease for 45 years at a rent of £300 per annum. Written applications for the lease were to be submitted by 31st March 1963.This item is significant because it documents plans made by the State Electricity Commission to develop the Falls Creek Tourist Area. A folder with a black and white image of skiers outside a hotel on the left. The logo of the State Electricity Commission and text is on the right half of the folder. On right half of cover: Logo of the State Electricity Commission TOURIST HOTEL PROJECT Falls Creek / North East Victoria Forwarded with the compliments of the State Electricity Commission of Victoriafalls creek tourist area, hotel development falls creek, falls creek projects 1963 -

Photograph, Demolition of Tower House Day and Boarding School, Surrey Hills in 1932 (1)
... hotels ...This building dated back to the 1880s and had previously operated as Delany's Hotel and then the Royal Hotel. It was built near the site of the original Delany's Hotel, built in 1856. The Royal Hotel closed in 1921 after the area voted to be a 'dry area' in the local option poll. Tower House Day and Boarding School operated from 1921 until 1932. Norman Carter took many photos of Surrey Hills and Mont Albert from the 1920s; many were associated with events and activities of the Church of England.Black and white photo of a partially demolished building. The roof and part of the second storey are missing. What remains indicates that it has been a large building in the Victorian style. Along one side at ground level there are 4 arches, perhaps entry to a covered veranda, above which is a colonnade, and perhaps an open veranda on the upper level. There is a mixture of treatments to the surrounds of the windows. On the corner, within an arch which may have once been a doorway, is a sign reading: "TOWER HOUSE / DAY / & / BOARDING SCHOOL". There is a car with a retractable hood in the lower RH Corner of the photo.Rear top centre in blue biro "1932" (crossed out); top RH corner "498" in red biro; centre "Demolition of / Tower House Day & Boarding / cr Canterbury & Broughton Rds / previously Tower House Hotel / originally Royal Hotel / See partner photo."; bottom RH cnr "demol (in red biro) / 20-8-32". Slide, Operation Firewood - Picola Hotel, 1960s
Colour slide of five legatees and a lady (presumably a Legatee's wife) in the Picola Hotel after collecting wood from the area. It was during Operation Firewood. Legatees would organise collection of wood from the country and distribute it to widows in metropolitan Melbourne. Other slides show the cutting and loading of wood and delivery to widows in metropolitan Melbourne. Was with many other slides taken in the 1950s and 1960s. The slides have been photographed to make digital images and moved to archive quality sleeves. In many cases the original images were not well focussed and the digital image the best available.A record of Legacy helping widows by sourcing, supplying and delivering firewood. When open fires were the main source of heating, a load of firewood and help moving it, would have been very important to the widows.Colour slide of Legatees at the Picola Hotel during Operation Firewood in brown Anscochrome cardboard mount.Printed on front in red ink 'Anscochrome / View from this side / Made in Australia'.
