Pictured are Ekaterini Varvarigos and her younger sister Olga. Ekaterini was born in in Ithaca in 1910 and came to Australia in 1926 to reunite with her parents. The young people in the photograph were attending an Ithacan Ball which was held at The Delphic in the early 1950s. The Delphic was located at Alfred Place, off Collins Street, was a popular venue for balls, dinner dances, wedding receptions and other social functions. It was owned by Bill Dellas who was well known amongst Melbourne's Ithacan community. Bill migrated to Melbourne as young lad from the neighbouring island of Lefkada. Seated on the left is Nina Kallinikos and second from the right her sister, Calle Kallinikos-Selover; in the centre is Lula Black nee Kavadeas and her brother Spiro. The young woman seated at the end has not been identified and neither has the man standing behind the group. The Delphic was a reception centre located in Alfred PlaceA black and white photograph of four young women in evening dress seated with a man. The fruit shop photographed was owned and run by Spiros Kallinikos and was one of the many similar businesses that Ithacans, who had settled in Melbourne during the first half of the twentieth century, operated within the CBD and surrounding suburbs. Pictured us Spiro's wife Evrilikia holding her daughter Calliope together with her Spiro's sister Chrisoula Sikiotis (nee Kallinikos). A black and white photograph of two ladies standing in the doorway of a suburban fruit shop. One of the ladies is holding a little child. The display window is attractively stocked with a variety of fruit and vegetables. There are also cauliflowers stacked on the right side of the doorway, and fruit in boxes on the left. -
