Two prints of each except - .4 .1 - steel beam shown in position in the saloon portion of a tram used to secure a bogie to the body of tram with steel section over transom and showing lifting hooks and securing or lifting bolts. Shown in position where the tramcar body floor was above that of the tramcar transom. .2 - ditto, but on an angle in a wide body tram where the top of the transom matched the top of the floor. Black and white photograph of CW5 684, route 70 outbound in Batman Ave. Ray Pearson's photo listing dates the photo as 1937. The CW5 tramcar was effectively a W5 tram using Brill 22E bogies or trucks as an economy measure during the mid-1930s. The trams were underpowered, with MMTB No. 15 bogies being fitted in 1956. Details the Trust's activities, finances and a short review of activities. Engineering report by Christie & Gardiner detailing the construction, supply of materials, rails, special work, and that 7 Combination Cars had been purchased along with motors and trucks. Has four pages of financial statements. The First World War restricted progress in acquiring materials. The tramcar bodies were purchased from the Hawthorn Tramway Trust (HTT). Seems that the 3rd and 4th sheets were initial drafts while the 1st and 2nd the later version, though still with some corrections. Lists car (tramcar) numbers, No. of cars, seating capacity, wheel base, horse power, type of car body - lists class, type of truck and type of equipment. The 3rd and 4th sheets also gave the weight in tons. List the cars that had already been scrapped. Set of 14 black and white photographs of the use of former sleeper transport car, W2 485 - see page 80 of Destination City 5th Edition for more details of the tram. Tram body being used to train emergency staff how to recover a tramcar that had been tipped over onto its side. DC5, notes it was stored at Preston workshops and later "used an instruction car to train emergency crews in the righting of the overturned trams. It was overturned several times in this role." Note: - would have been at the time, probably the only way to do this, as mobile cranes were only just starting to be developed. Truck is an AEC built Matador truck.
