... ww2 internment camp camp 3 Vagarini C A large Eucalyptus Tree ...The painting was bought from Cesare Vagarini by Herr Wennagel for "Weihnachten" 1941 (Christmas) for his wife Johanna (Hanno) Wennagel. It was their first Christmas in the Camp. Herr Wennagel made many of the frames for Vagarini's paintings.A large Eucalyptus Tree surrounded by four huts - one on the left, three to the right. Green grass between the huts. A sunflower is growing at the side of the front left hut and a woman wearing a white shirt and blue skirt is seen entering the hut. Two women, one in pink and one in yellow are standing on a pathway between the huts. Clothes hanging on a washing line can be seen behind the tree near the last hut on the right. ... camp 3 Cesare Vagarini Camp 3 artwork Victorian Internment ...Harry Gorry bid for & purchased on internet auction site. The seller's mother was putting these & other items up for auction. Her father, the seller's grandfather was Dr. Bruno Koenig, a German surgeon detained by Allied forces while fleeing New Guinea in 1941. He was detained & sent to be interned in Camp 3, Tatura. There he met the painter Cesare Vagarini & they became friends, thus 4 years later upon the end of the war Vagarini gave the surgeon the two paintings in thanks & in memory of their friendship. Dr Koening then passed the paintings down to his daughter, where they remained in the family for 60 years. The seller's mother decided it was time to sell & was happy that the paintings went to a good home, as the family was until now unaware of the connection between Vagarini and the Tatura Museum. Harry Gorry just happened to notice a familiar name in an auction that he came across by accident & purchased them for our benefit. ... camp 3 internment internee camps items German Red Cross Else ...Else-Lore and her mother Else Oertel were German internees in Camp 3A from 1940-1945. The German Red Cross sent items to the internees in the camps and this tin of chocolate was one of the items given to the Oertel family. Else-Lore Hukins donated the item, which she describes as a 'treasured item'.Round metal tin with plastic-wrapped cake of chocolate inside. Chocolate has Hildebrand inscribed in centre with picture possibly of two knights on horseback. Tin has cream/tan lid with dark brown base.
