Faram Bros had occupied this site since 1919Forty two (42) colour photographs (digital) taken on 10 February 2007 at the community farewell, street party and BBQ for the closure of Faram Bros hardware shop. Party held in street outside 405-415 Bay Street. Attended by many PMHPS members and former customers. A 3 piece band and lone piper (bagpipes) were highlights. Peach coloured nylon nightgown made by HANRO Bendigo. Bodice gathered at front onto a plaited band under the bust. On each side of the band three ties (102cm) extend from the ends of the plaited band. Shoulder straps made up of three pieces of nylon tubing attached back and front and plaited over each shoulder. Back of bodice in two pieces. Ankle length A line skirt. Colour at bodice is pale peach colour that darkens as it descends to the hem where it becomes a deep orange colour. Nightie given to donor by her grandmother who received the nightie as a prize at a Hanro meeting. Full length skirt, with a three-quarter length over-skirt, edged in braided embroidery. Over-skirt is attached at the waistline, with a band of tape, and separates on the left hand side waistline. Stitched to the underskirt at the front, and edged with a .5cm dark olive coloured braid. The braid extends around the hemline of the overskirt in a looped pattern. Fabric has a woven stripe-a narrow stripe of lighter colour, and a .75cm stripe of dark grey edged with tan. Skirt fully lined with brown cotton fabric. Centre back plackett fastens with one large metal hook and eye, and six smaller hooks, and hand made cotton loops. Skirt has matching bodice 11400.744. This two piece outfit - skirt and bodice, was made by Laura's Mother in 1908, and mostly by hand. She wore it also to Mass in 1913. Clothing. Dark navy blue and red peaked hat or cap, with peaked shade over the face, featuring two heavy gold leaves 12 cm long, and curved from the sides of the shade, to meet in the centre. These may be woven or moulded gold work.A 1 cm wide black patent ribbon is held across the lower crown of the cap, with 2 x 2 cm diameter brass buttons - one at each end. Narrow braid (probably once gold braid) edges the 5.5 cm deep crown of the cap, which is dark navy in colour. A flat dark navy top of the crown is lined, and shaped on the underside with red woollen fabric. This is shaped to be wider and higher at the centre front. Two eyelets on either side of this section, ventilate the crown of the cap. A brass metal ''music stand'' topped by a crown and an oak leaf and acorn wreath at the sides is attached to centre front. A 5 cm wide leather band lines the crown, which is also lined with red cotton fabric, and a diamond shaped plastic ''hair-oil protection'' at the top of the crown.Inside crown, on a plastic protector, is a small white sticker, showing the number 7, this is probably an indication of size.costume, male uniform, civilian, cap

Photograph. Colour photograph of Heather Reeves (nee Pain) standing on the front verandah at home in Golden Square, holding a new staff donated by Sir George Lansell in 1956 at the Memorial Hall at a special presentation gathering. The donation was greatly appreciated. Heather was Pipe Major of the Bendigo Ladies Pipe Band. The band made a guard of honour for Heather Pain's wedding to Neil Reeves at St. Paul's Anglican Church Bendigo in 1957. The band then led the wedding party up the street to Mitchell Street. WEDDING DRESS. Made by brides mother, the empire line dress of crepe fabric, with guipure lace trim, in 1972. Long slim fitting sleeves, with a 3 cm wide band of lace in a flower and leaf design, around the wrist. The lace also edges the high round neckline, and defines the curve of the panels in the high empire line bodice, and the centre panel of the long princess-line skirt. Wedding veil and headpiece. Soft cream in colour, the fine soft tulle is embroidered with a continuous, curvaceous, chain stitched embroidered leaf design. The tulle has been cut to follow the curves of the embroidery.The three tier veil is tightly gathered onto a one cm band, which is stitched to a clear plastic, curved comb 8.5 cm long and which would hold in the hair of the bride. Invitation card for the private opening of the Wattle Path Palais & Cafe, on the Esplanade, St Kilda, on 30 October 1923. The event was written up in The Argus newspaper the next day as follows: WATTLE PATH PALAIS OPENED. Five thousand persons were present at the "private opening" last night of the Wattle Path Palais and Cafe, St Kilda esplanade. The mayor of St Kilda (Councillor Allan) welcomed the guests on behalf of the management. The floor, 190ft. x 90ft, is claimed to be the largest specially constructed for dancing in Australia. There was much to admire in the colour tones, which blended brown, blue, and gold harmoniously, while soft lighting effects came from old gold georgette and crepe-de-chene lamp shades. A good band was provided. Sixty-five loges are available for parties of dancers.
