Black and white negative, by Wal Jack, of S 160 (St Georges Road) and W2 455 (West Preston 10) at the intersection of Barkly St and St Georges Road, North Fitzroy. The Trolley Pole is turned on S 160 for the car to return to Lygon St along Holden St. On a wall above the W2 is written "Gone to Berlin" On the corner is a Cash Grocer, advertising McAlpin's Flour, Velvet Soap. In the background is a bus stop sign and housing that has been built since the demolition and sale of the former Cable Tram depot. The Statesman WB range of long-wheelbase luxury sedans, developed by General Motors-Holden’s in parallel with the Holden WB series, was released in May 1980. Like their Statesman HZ predecessors, the two models in the Statesman WB range, the de Ville and the Caprice, were marketed as "Statesman" rather than as "Holden". Photograph shows a female journalist with notebook in hand being shown the controls by a uniformed tramway employee at a depot yard, most likely Hawthorn depot. Photo undated and no details of the paper and it is post trove scanning at the time of cataloguing. The cutting notes that it appears much simpler than driving a car. Note the table card in the employee's pocket. The journalist is probably from the women's pages of one of the metropolitan newspapers. Her coat would have been very expensive and definitely extremely fashionable - which is why it is thought she was from the women's pages of one of the major papers. The coat appears to be real ocelot fur dating it to about 1963. In 2015 during the development of the 2016 Commodores, which were to introduce the larger 6.2 litre LS # V8 engine, The decision was made ro return to the Nurburgring to attempt a sub eight minute lap, that success an ideal way the proposed Magnum range. The car body of W 307 was built by Holden ...Photograph shows W class 307 standing on slightly curved track displaying destination "Victoria Bridge" and no route number box attached. The uniformed motorman and conductor stand on the roadway next to the front driver's cab where the trolley pole has been tied down. The conductor wears his coin bag and the driver is holding the tram's key and air brake handle. An elderly male passenger with coat stands at the drop-centre doorway and other passengers are inside. The car body of W 307 was built by Holden Motor Body Builders in South Australia in 1924 as part of a large contract to build W class trams. Victoria Bridge was the termini of both the Collins Street and Victoria Parade cable tram that closed in 1929 and the Mont Albert electric tram from Union Road, via Whitehorse Road and Kew Junction. Perhaps this photograph is of the Mont Albert terminus although the curved track suggests otherwise.Yields information about early W class tramcars .
