This is an example of Melbourne Legacy promotional material that was issued to inform the public on the work of Legacy. Legacy is committed to the nurturing of its young members, known as Junior Legatees. Legacy helps to make sure stye get the education their fathers would have wished for them and to ensure their families enjoy a normal lifestyle. In addition to the 3,000 Junior Legatees throughout Australia, Legacy also cares for the handicapped dependants of its "family". Recreational outings and educational programs are arranged on a monthly basis. The lapel badge was worn to signify membership of the Harbour Lights Guild. Variations of this badge were made for different State Guilds by different jewellers or badge manufacturers. Variations also indicated during some eras if the wearer was a full member, worker or honorary.The Harbour Lights Guild was instrumental in securing funds to construct the current building at 717 Flinders Street, and in particular the Memorial chapel and Gymnasium. They were also dedicated volunteers who organised many social functions and events to offer visiting seafarers an opportunity to relax, have fun and socialise away from the ship. Civilian surgical and medical teams and other civilian groups who served in Vietnam under Government Jurisdiction, crew members of ships or aircraft; those attached to , or serving with, an Australian or Allied Unit as an observer were eligible.
