Note by T.H. Kneen 13 May1992, "The Burnley display was part of the Division of Agricultural Education's display covering Dookie, Longerenong and Burnley. Reference to Rural Training in 1957 would have been mainly to the on-farm training phase of the Rural Reconstruction Training Scheme. The Agricultural Collegians Association members had a meeting point at the exhibit. Burnley ex-students were not members of that association."Black and white photograph. The Golden Square Rural Training School began in 1945, to train trainee teachers attending the Bendigo Teachers' College. Rural school relocated to Gander Reserve in 1952. Researched by Ken Curnow, Rural 1 student 1958 - 1964. The redundant Bristol building was relocated to the scout reserve at Koolamurt. Water tank - Gundowring, 1923
The two Gundowring Fire Brigade tanks may have been used for drinking water for the fire fighters. Their curved side and handles indicate that they were attached (strapped) to horses or a round tank and transported to the fire.This tank was used for drinking water for the fire fighters of Gundowring during the 1923 fire. Some of their equipment was hand made. The Gundowring Fire Brigade was a rural fire brigade operating in 1923.Green rusty metal rectangular tank with an opening at the top but no lid. At the bottom on one side there is an horizontally extended pipe with a flat knob at its end that can be turned to allow the water in the tank to come out.. At the top of the tank is a rectangular hollow metal handle. There is also a handle on the top of the opposite side. There are 2 smaller triangular hollow metal 'handles' at the top of the straight side (for strapping). There is one square hollow metal handle in the middle of the bottom of the same side which is also the curved side. This side is curved vertically. This photo shows the foundation stone that was erected on the Manchester Unity Hall site when it was built in 1961. The building was demolished to make way for the Local Government Center, presently housing the Rural City of Wangaratta. The first meeting of Manchester Unity members was held in Wangaratta 1863. The 2/24th Australian Infantry Battalion Association was uniquely granted the Freedom of the City by the Rural City of Wangaratta in 1990 - to our knowledge the only/first Battalion Association in Australia to be granted this honour. Council acknowledges its appreciation of the contribution made by this Unit to community peace and national democracy and congratulates “Wangaratta’s Own” 2/24 Australian Infantry Battalion Association on its Fiftieth Anniversary since formation.The 2/24th Australian Infantry Battalion Association was uniquely granted the Freedom of the City by the Rural City of Wangaratta in 1990 - to our knowledge the only/first Battalion Association in Australia to be granted this honour.
