Denis Gibbons (1937 – 2011) Trained with the Australian Army, before travelling to Vietnam in January 1966, Denis stayed with the 1st Australian Task Force in Nui Dat working as a photographer. For almost five years Gibbons toured with nine Australian infantry battalions, posting compelling war images from within many combat zones before being flown out in late November 1970 after sustaining injuries. The images held within the National Vietnam Veterans Museum make up the Gibbons Collection. Medals were presented up until the year 2002 at the Geelong West Cycling Club.Medals are a recognition of achievement in competitive cycling events.2 x Medals - one in bronze metal conglomerate, the other in gold metal conglomerate. The front of the medals depict an olive wreath around the circumference, and has a racing cyclist painted on an enamel disk in the centre. On the reverse sides, inscriptions appear inside an olive wreath decoration. Stephen Drew was Nintingbool Potteries Stephen (Steve) Drew studied at the Ballarat Technical Art School (a division of the Ballarat School of Mines) and RMIT. He worked as a secondary school teacher for a short time before setting up Nintingbool Potteries in a bush setting at Smythes Creek, near Ballarat, in 1974. He made a wide range of functional pottery high-fired in stoneware and porcelain, later concentrating on one-off sculptural pieces. Steve Drew was instrumental in setting up the Ballarat Ceramic Group, which operated for twenty years, and is a member of the Golden Plains Art Trail. His pottery mark is recorded as an impressed 'N' in a circle, or an incised 'Drew'. John Thwaites was Mayor of South Melbourne and subsequently served in the Victorian Parliament from 1992-2007, filling the position of Deputy Premier from 1999 – 2007. Steve Bracks was the 44th Premier of Victoria from 1999-2007. He was born in Ballarat. John Brumby was the 45th Premier of Victoria from 2007-2010. Robyn Mason was a member of the ALP and unsuccessfully contested the seat of Ballarat West in 1996. She was a feminist and a social worker who fought hard for those affected by sexual abuse and violence. City of Moorabbin was proclaimed 1934 and managed the areas of Cheltenham, Highett, Moorabbin, Bentleigh, East Bentleigh, East Brighton, McKinnon, Ormond until the Amalgamation of Councils in 1994. The City of Kingston then took over the area south of South Road while City of Glen Eira took the area to the north Kingston City Council possesses the original Mayoral Chain of former City of Moorabbin and it is displayed on the Moorabbin Mayoral Robe at KCC Office Cheltenham for the Annual Opening meeting of KCC in February . 2018 The Moorabbin Mayoral Robe was sent on 7 year loan to KCC for display at Cheltenham with the former City of Chelsea and former City of Mordialloc Mayoral Robes.Since the 1960s far-sighted community members have generously donated many significant items to the ‘Box Cottage’ museum, specifically to provide future generations with a fascinating, and tangible insight into day-to-day life from the 1800’s and up to the mid 1900's. Moorabbin City Council supported their efforts until the Amalgamation of Councils 1994.
