Details the operation of the Melbourne Tramway system prior to the introduction of the then new Z class trams, in the final decade of the MMTB, its operations, track, training, management, power supplies, tickets and other operational systems. Includes notes on services, tramcar fleet allocation, depots, fare sections and running times. Has introduction by author looking at Melbourne compared to other tramway systems around the world at the time and acknowledgements. Two copies held. Official M&MTB photograph shows front on view of Garford KB 27.3 H.P petrol chassis with a Cable Tram Workshop body. Seated 20. Bus No.49. One of four buses in the fleet (Nos. 47 to 50.) Entered service 1925. Retired by 1933 when the chassis was converted into a truck. Image of MMTB Scrubber tram No. 8 northbound in Elizaberth St at the corner with Collins St. Has a W2 in the background. The tram was strengthed during 1961 by adding bracing between the cabs. Two ladies one with a pram are waiting at the safety zone. Based on the dresses of the ladies and pram, most likely mid to late 1950s. Note the large letter box or receiving pillar with a crown behind the tram. The tram is now part of the Museum's fleet and is used for rail/track maintenance.
