Photo shows W class tram 301 derailed at the intersection of Coldblo Road, the entry into Malvern Tram Depot, and Glenferrie Road. The tram has struck and partly demolished the verandah of a building in front of it. Many uniformed employees are standing around, an overhead tower truck can be seen at the front of the tram. Photograph is of a newspaper cutting of photograph and caption. It shows a W or W2 class tram in Acland St, St Kilda passing the single level brick frontage of the disused cable car shed. The closed main entry doors carry a large sign about its future sale. Apart from the closure of a short section of track in northern Swanston St in 1924, the St Kilda Beach to Windsor and to the city line was the first full cable line to be closed in 1925. Photo shows extensive track lights on the left side of the single-track Nicholson St East Coburg tram line with W2 class tram 473? inbound on route 1 just to the north of Grant St. This section of track was considered dangerous and to alleviate the problem of inbound or southbound tramcars not being visible well in advance to northbound motorists, the MMTB installed the track lights. The Chief Engineer at the 24/3/1960 meeting of the Board advised of the scheme that the track lights would be progressively switched on in advance of a southbound tram. Photograph shows X2 class tram 677 parallel to an unknown W2 class tram in Glen Huntly Rd, Elsternwick near Elsternwick Stn. 677 has its single trolley pole set ready to be driven over a crossover and probably onto Point Ormond terminus. Perhaps it is waiting for the City bound W2 to pass. 677's east facing destination blind still reads Elsternwick Rly Stn as it was M&MTB practice on short shuttle services such as this to only show the correct destination on the front of the tram. Photograph of vacant tramcar wash road facility, presumably at Kew Depot. Three W2 class trams are partially shown on adjacent roads, one displaying route number 47 (City to Kew Depot). Several semi-circular windows are shown high on the rear wall. Along both sides of the vacant road are narrow 40 cm wide platforms approx 60 cms above the car shed floor with safety rails attached. An open pit sits between the two platforms. A water hose pipe appears in the foreground and all surfaces appear wet.
