The red brick building has bluestone foundations, cast iron lacework verandah trim, high ornate gables, slate roof and unusual round brick chimneys with spiral brick decorations.Historically significant brick home built c.1860 for Mr Newman. In winter it was too muddy for passengers in cars to travel all the way to Lorne so a horse drawn coach was used to travel to Clarke's where it met the service coach from Geelong.
